iltc stated he does not believe 180 would happen. Am I almost drunk??
ya I have no idea what that was? probably the same thing that happens a bunch. they see the name "cats", assume I had to have said something mean, know they just have to disagree, forget to actually read, and instead post some incoherent crap that has nothing to do with what was actually being discussed. happens all the time.

let's try again shall we? maybe real slow. EG asked me if the cats EVER had success running on the griz. I answered that depending on your view of "success", I feel we had some in 2010 where we had 180 yards on the ground with 140 and a td coming from orenzo davis. EG responded that was a fair answer and asked me if I expected the same results from this offense with our line against the griz front 7. I again responded that today, august 27, before seeing either team play...I would say no. right now, I don't see the cats rushing for 180 plus yards. however, a lot can change in nearly three months...so perhaps my answer would be different closer to when we actually play.

feel free to disagree. :thumb:

About two thirds of his (Orenzo Davis) yards came on one long break-a-way run. Congrats to msu on that run, but other than that msu was held totally in check on the ground in 2010.
That's how I remember it happening. I was gonna say something but was gonna check the facts first but this sounds more than accurate.

Chase R. had 180 yards for the game, longest was the first play, 59 yards, roughly 1/3 of his yardage came on that first play.

OD had 140 yards, longest was 17 yards, 1/8 of his yards came on that one play.

You should have checked first

Good job on looking that up. Have to look at the number of carries too though in order to determine if a running attack had success or not. Sure OD had 140 yards, which is good. However OD also had 33 total carries to get his 140 yards, while Reynolds only had 21 carries to get his 180 yards.

Even if you take away the longest carry for each, it's pretty lopsided. Then Reynolds has 124 yards on 20 carries (6.2 yards per carry), and OD has 123 on 32 carries (3.8 yards per carry).

Now if you look at the over all running attack for both teams in the 2010 game, it's even more lopsided. The Cats ran the ball 44 times for 140 yards (3.2 yards per carry), while the Griz ran it 40 times for 259 yards (6.5 yards per carry).

I'm not sure I'd say 3.2 yards per carry is good success in the running game. Unfortunately you did have more success than the Griz in the only stat that really matters...the scoreboard :(

If I had to guess, I'd guess IntuitiveGriz is thinking of the Demetrius Crawford run in 2008 in the first half. That of course was followed by multiple attempts at the goal line being stuffed, with Crawford very visibly pissed off on the sideline after being taken out after his big run :)

Have I mentioned my affinity for Potomac as the stat man?

If one were a stat groupie, they would kneed his balls with attentiveness..

As soon as I find a stat groupie, they are coming your way..after I steal a few of your numbers..just to test the waters, brother..would never want to throw ya a crazy one..

I've been out "wondering" around before. I wandered into a tree.

valid points, but I am wondering if you should check your calculator, concerning the artificial numbers for CR.
180-59 = 121 not 124 as you state, and carried out further 121/20 results in a 6.0 avg rather than 6.2

Woops! I somehow got it in my head that his longest carry was 56 yards. Looking at the box score again I see it definitely was 59 though.
