I really wanna see this big time D they keep taking about!! A bunch of green kids tryin to stay in a game with some tough experienced guys. Riiiggghhhttt... :lol:nzone said:Personally I hope they do try and run. We'll see a lot of 3 and outs putting that "very deep" defense on the field. I think we all know how that will turn out![]()
hmm I don't understand about half of what you said. I've obviously never played the gamemtgrizfankb said:If you have read about this year much the coaches know they had to play soft man and zone a ton and that's where we got beat up. No team can be good playing 100% soft coverage and this year they are saying the team has experience now and will play bump and run and zone mix and swing defense. Honestly I think we will get beat less deep. But our safetys won't be alone on islands now and our LBs can play in correct formations. John and Brock often lined up in a almost 4-4 or 5-2 lb set to cover the quick outs and runs which screwed up prettyuch everthing. This Normal style should allow our players to focus on doing their 1-11. Not 2 or 3 of 11.

My belief is that the reason your run D stats looked so good last year is because teams knew they could throw on you so they just didn't run on you much. IF your secondary is much improved somehow... even though it's basically the same players, you'll see more teams try to pound it out against you. Some will have success (NAU, EWU, MSU, CP), others probably not so much. Your one linebacker is crazy fast... the other two, not so much, I noticed them out of position a lot last year, especially on pass coverage. I know you guys are all hoping for a defense like one of the D's in years past... (12 ppg or something sick like that)... but it's just not going to happen.
When has msu EVER had success running the ball against the GRIZ?? I don't think this is the year to try.

I guess "success" is a relative term but i'd say 2010. we had about 180 on the ground that day with orenzo going for 140 and a td.
Why??? Cody Kirk??? He can't even move. His lateral moves are tin soldier like. His top end speed isn't even avg. for a BSC back. Maybe D.M. on some scrambles, but I hope cody kirk is lining up in Nov. when we come to Holland Field. Throw ball down the field and I can say it's a possibility. He'll be a non factor..."GUARANTEED" :egriz:ilovethecats said:at this point no. in a few months when we play I may or may not have a different answer. but no, if that cats and griz were playing Thursday I wouldn't expect us to run on you for 180 plus.

ya I have no idea what that was? probably the same thing that happens a bunch. they see the name "cats", assume I had to have said something mean, know they just have to disagree, forget to actually read, and instead post some incoherent crap that has nothing to do with what was actually being discussed. happens all the time. :lol:Geddes said:rimrockgriz said:Why??? let's try again shall we? maybe real slow. EG asked me if the cats EVER had success running on the griz. I answered that depending on your view of "success", I feel we had some in 2010 where we had 180 yards on the ground with 140 and a td coming from orenzo davis. EG responded that was a fair answer and asked me if I expected the same results from this offense with our line against the griz front 7. I again responded that today, august 27, before seeing either team play...I would say no. right now, I don't see the cats rushing for 180 plus yards. however, a lot can change in nearly three months...so perhaps my answer would be different closer to when we actually play.

That's how I remember it happening. About two thirds of his (Orenzo Davis) yards came on one long break-a-way run. Congrats to msu on that run, but other than that msu was held totally in check on the ground in 2010.
AGREE you can't run for 180...and yes I think i'll stick with the "tin man" (see if he can touch his toes in warm ups thursday) doubtful. :egriz: (you love the cats, but you'll swallow the griz) :egriz:ilovethecats said:ya I have no idea what that was? probably the same thing that happens a bunch. they see the name "cats", assume I had to have said something mean, know they just have to disagree, forget to actually read, and instead post some incoherent crap that has nothing to do with what was actually being discussed. happens all the time. :lol:Geddes said:rimrockgriz said:Why???
