and kids weren't fat

They couldn’t be with all that pulling on their bootstraps. I remember when if you pulled on your bootstrap three times in a day, you’d get a free ticket to Old Dornblaser.

I heard it puts hair on your palms. We are talking about the same type of bootstrap pulling, right?

Hair on your palms? I thought it was hair on the outside of the hands. Well, Ok then. I'll stop shaving the outside of my hands!

Watching old NCIS and Law and Order reruns trumps ESPN anyhow.

I can't find "Married With Children" anywhere!

Ah yes, the best sitcom in History, in my opinion.

You can get a free month of Hulu. They have it.

There was a time we had no ESPN, and we survived

Surviving but were you really living?

Truthfully, as I get older I watch less of it anyway.

Grew up in a house with no TV. A great life. Mom booted us out of the house after breakfast and we built forts, created baseball diamonds, fished, roller-skated and biked all day. Amazing that we survived without TV, drugs, porn, and fast food.

That sounds great, now think how much better it would have been to have all that plus drugs and porn?

Haahaha. Funny. Yeah, it wasn't all idyllic, but I'd still prefer that period to grow up in.

What did you do for bootstraps?

Same here. You didn't mention -- but I'll bet you had them -- the chores you had to complete before starting on the fun stuff ... adding in pick-up basketball, building (probably unsafe) tree houses, etc.

An observation: Safety helmets are a good thing and I'm glad we now have them. We didn't back then, yet we survived that too. I do not recall any serious, debilitating injury for any of my friends due to the lack of that (and other) safety equipment. I myself once went down a too-steep slope and ended up doing a header over the handlebars. We all thought it was funny, except for the work to get the front wheel back to something approaching a circle. It was only looking back as an adult that I realized things could have been far different. So I'm certainly not saying we shouldn't take safety precautions, but they are not the be-all and end-all of existence. And sometimes you have to take chances to make progress.

There are some good jokes going around. I liked this one.

Guy: There were no sports on tv last night, so I talked to my wife for an hour. She told me she works in healthcare.

Well, good news for espn. They now have all week to discuss nothing else besides how New England is suddenly in search of the best cheater on the free agent market.
