Tevin McDonald

Right now, I do not think UM could touch McDonald with a ten foot pole.

Are you kidding me? After all of the sh_t we have been through, and the NCAA breathing down our necks, we want to take on another personal reclamation project? No way in hell! One bad kid can ruin team chemistry anyway.

I'm sure Tevin will be wearing a "full cage" face mask... :ban:

My guess is that his choice of schools was dependent upon proximity to BC bud... Surprised he's not enrolling at Simon Fraser.

Per the presser,
“After consultation with many people and having a long discussion with Tevin, we’ve determined that he deserves the opportunity to continue his collegiate career,” said Eastern head coach Beau Baldwin. “We have high expectations of him off the field, in the classroom and on the field.”

I'm sure he'll be on a short leash. I'm very hopeful he'll see the field because he's an outstanding player, but not overly optimistic, considering the temptation in a bud legal state. However, the thought of McDonald paired with upstart RS sophomore Jordan Tonani... hell yeah. That's quite the safety tandem.

This guys saga sounds eerily similar to Santi Hall, a former UCLA LB kicked off the team for rules violation around 2000. He enrolled at Sac St boasting how the BSC had never seen a LB as good as him and how he would dominate the conference. He had a lackluster year and was ruled ineligible the following season.

How does it sound like that at all, when he has yet to play for EWU, and I haven't read anything about him touting how good he is? If he can stay out of trouble, he will more than likely be an outstanding player for us. He started as a RS freshman and sophomore, has earned All-American honors for his play, and comes from a very strong NFL bloodline. Can't hurt having a dad who was a 6-time All-Pro safety, and coaches the DBs for the NY Jets... one of the best secondaries in football.

You'd have to have been braindead to not think this kid would end up at EWU. I knew the second the story broke that's the ONLY place he was going. And it's fine. Eastern fans can gloat about getting a great player because they certainly did get one. But while Screaming Eagle and others are gloating, I hope you'll all at least be willing to admit that had he landed in Missoula, you would have been on Egriz faster than flies on a fresh pile trashing Delaney, Haslem and whoever else for taking another thug, while Cat fans would have been screaming "They still want to win at all costs". It's funny when it's your own team though, it's always "he deserves a second chance."

We'll see if he lasts 2 years in the ever"green" state.

Tevin McDonald was released from his scholarship by UCLA. Two year starter...could transfer to FCS and play right away. Should we avoid these types of players? Or is our need so great in the secondary, we should still go for him?

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/coll...cdonald-dismissed-ucla-bruins-rules-violation

LOS ANGELES -- UCLA safety Tevin McDonald has been dismissed from the football team for a violation of team rules, Bruins coach Jim Mora announced Tuesday.

McDonald, a starter the last two seasons and a freshman All-American in 2011, was third on the team with 79 tackles last season and tied a school record with three interceptions in a game as a freshman.

McDonald was thought of as one of the team leaders, and Mora selected him as one of two representatives for Pac-12 media day prior to last season.

"It's disappointing to me," Mora said. "I'm disappointed for Tevin."

McDonald also was suspended from UCLA's Holiday Bowl appearance in December for a violation of team rules. The Los Angeles Times reported at the time that McDonald had failed three drug tests. UCLA's policy is that a player who fails three drug tests is suspended for a game and failing any subsequent drug tests would result in the loss of scholarship.

Mora, citing legal reasons, could not reveal the nature of the violation that resulted in McDonald's dismissal or if it was related to his Holiday Bowl suspension. He simply expressed sadness over losing a player who he has known for a long time.

McDonald's father, Tim, played safety for the San Francisco 49ers when Mora was the defensive backs coach for the 49ers. He said Tevin and his brother T.J., a USC standout the past four seasons, used to hang around practices and the locker room.

"I've known Tevin since he was a young boy," Mora said. "I probably met him when he was 5. So just on a personal level, it's disappointing. I care about him and I hope that everything turns out well for him."

Mora hinted that McDonald would probably try to transfer to another school.

""He's got a great family, he's got great parents and I know that they'll find the right avenues for him to have success," Mora said. "He's a good kid."

Losing McDonald leaves an already thin UCLA secondary with another question mark. McDonald was slated to start, but now sophomore Randall Goforth is the only returning player who started at any secondary position last season.

Dietrich Riley, a starter at safety two years ago, is slated to return from neck fusion surgery. The Bruins have signed a top-notch class of secondary players, including Priest Willis and Tahaan Goodman, who were both ranked among the top 10 safeties in the Class of 2013.

"We're really light at that safety position," Mora said. "We've got reinforcements coming in the fall with the four really good players that we signed, but they're not here yet. I think the one interesting thing will be to see how Dietrich is. He's been cleared."

IMHO, we do not want to pursue any player who has been dismissed from their team, particularly for violating team rules and drug abuse. Don't want 'em, don't need anybody that bad. This guy has "stay away" written all over him, particularly since he was dismissed by a family friend. Good family, good parents don't count. It's not the parents who are coming. I know lots of real nice people with really screwed-up kids.

I wouldn't have, because he's not a "thug." He was smoking pot, not raping anybody or getting into bar fights or what have you. Notice I didn't say he deserves a second chance... I was quoting the presser which included Baldwin's statement on the kid. There's no guarantee he'll even see the field, considering the temptations in the evergreen state.

What bar fights are you referring to, or are you just making up stuff? Can you identify any involving UM football players in say the last 5 years? Besides Donaldson, can you identify any others that raped someone?

Drug abuse? Testing positive several times for smoking pot is drug abuse? Now that's pretty funny. Jeez, pot is starting to be legalized in states.
