I'm in the "get rid of the black" column. Maroon, silver and white. There are plenty of combinations that would look good within those parameters.
Of course O'Day said we needed the hip uniforms to get players to come to UM and the players needed to have a say in the design. Giving some players too much say in the administration of such things didn't work too well for him. I liked O'Day but I think that kind of thinking played a small part in the problems we have today. Administrators administrate, coaches coach and students study and play. When we have to get black uniforms to draw a kid to UM then we don't need him. Playing for UM and it's tradition should be the draw, not giving in to each player's personal wish list. Just my opionion and not meant to inflame. I'm old school and not part of the "precious" generation. :thumb:
For many kids that stance works but for some they like unique/trendy jerseys. Oregon doesn't go through all the jersey changes/designs because they think it's cute - it's because it appeals to a few athletes.
I could also flip your argument and say you're/we're just fans, our job is to cheer, not have oversight in jersey design. :thumb:
There is nothing wrong with kids liking trendy uniforms. My kids like trendy clothes also and they occassionally try to dress me and that has not worked well either. I'm a young grandpa so that gives you a gage to work from.
This is kind of off the subject and kind of deap for a uniform thread but I feel that the self entitlement generation (I call the precious generation) is used to getting most of what they want. Therefore, to entice them to come to UM, or anywhere for that matter, they must be given more and more to include a say in the design of uniforms. It doesn't work at home when your kids want the newest, best, most trendy item (unless you are loaded I guess) and it shouldn't be a negotiating item to play football at a university. I didn't agree with O'Day when he responded to my email last fall about the uniforms and I don't agree with that phylosophy (sp) today. Of course my theory is not applied to all the hard working kids that could care less what the uniform looks like. It applies to those that think they should have a say in such things in order to play at UM. For some, it may be a license to think they are so important that other lines become very grey as well.
I just have to respectfully disagree on this minor point Brint. And yes, my job is to cheer. But I'm not the one changing the school colors to entice players and I think the school colors are those that should be used.
