Tell me they will get rid of those ugly uniforms.

I'm in the "get rid of the black" column. Maroon, silver and white. There are plenty of combinations that would look good within those parameters.

Of course O'Day said we needed the hip uniforms to get players to come to UM and the players needed to have a say in the design. Giving some players too much say in the administration of such things didn't work too well for him. I liked O'Day but I think that kind of thinking played a small part in the problems we have today. Administrators administrate, coaches coach and students study and play. When we have to get black uniforms to draw a kid to UM then we don't need him. Playing for UM and it's tradition should be the draw, not giving in to each player's personal wish list. Just my opionion and not meant to inflame. I'm old school and not part of the "precious" generation. :thumb:

Yep. And for those that think alternate/black/unique jerseys don't have an impact on players - watch this video;

I'd dare someone after watching this to say that jersey style and use of unique alternates don't matter.

For many kids that stance works but for some they like unique/trendy jerseys. Oregon doesn't go through all the jersey changes/designs because they think it's cute - it's because it appeals to a few athletes.

I could also flip your argument and say you're/we're just fans, our job is to cheer, not have oversight in jersey design. :thumb:

There is nothing wrong with kids liking trendy uniforms. My kids like trendy clothes also and they occassionally try to dress me and that has not worked well either. I'm a young grandpa so that gives you a gage to work from.

This is kind of off the subject and kind of deap for a uniform thread but I feel that the self entitlement generation (I call the precious generation) is used to getting most of what they want. Therefore, to entice them to come to UM, or anywhere for that matter, they must be given more and more to include a say in the design of uniforms. It doesn't work at home when your kids want the newest, best, most trendy item (unless you are loaded I guess) and it shouldn't be a negotiating item to play football at a university. I didn't agree with O'Day when he responded to my email last fall about the uniforms and I don't agree with that phylosophy (sp) today. Of course my theory is not applied to all the hard working kids that could care less what the uniform looks like. It applies to those that think they should have a say in such things in order to play at UM. For some, it may be a license to think they are so important that other lines become very grey as well.

I just have to respectfully disagree on this minor point Brint. And yes, my job is to cheer. But I'm not the one changing the school colors to entice players and I think the school colors are those that should be used. :P

this theory would apply if some entitled player contacted the school and said he'd only play there if they had black uniforms. or xbox's in the locker room. or anything else he could demand. and i think many of us would think this kid was a douche. however, this isn't the case. it's marketing and nothing more. there is nothing wrong with using things like this to be competitve in the college game. this isn't an entitlement thing. it's about people using whatever they have at their disposal to get the best players. the same goes for the job market.

you can only be as entitled as the people are willing to entitle you....

It's nice when the founder of Nike is an alumni as is the case with Oregon.

Maybe survey the players re: how much having black in their uniforms made them choose UM over other schools.

I like the new unis. Personally I think the black looks MUCH better than the granite/fade pants. I'd like to see an all maroon jersey this year, though, like what we used to do.

...I'm pretty sure "white" isn't an official school color either...however, this doesn't really matter, I guess since the "standard" is for the away teams to wear light/white colored uniforms....why'd you guys have to make this about race jeez! Just because we have black uniforms....

The rules are racist then! Racist I say!

1. We all know why black is in the uniform's "Denial Queens". It ain't to get the white Northwest kids. Short of coming out with totally Pink uniforms, the program (tradition, winning, playoffs, stadium, fan base) sells itself.
2. Secondly, it's about marketing. How many $$$$ did the program make in souvenior jersey sales? Though none of those ugly Mofo's were purchased by my family tree. (The pants have to be a big seller at the local Quick Lube shops. Why not wear something that looks like it was used to sop up an oil spill.)

Why?

Why post this? Why go down this well worn trail again?

Seems to me that the white Northwest kids are doing more than their share in keeping UM on the front page of the paper these days. Your posts are generally a good contribution to this forum. This is not one of them.

Ha ha, yes, a peaceful disagreement. I am a Griz fan first and formost and will cheer no matter what they are wearing. I just prefer traditional colors and forget the additions. I respect your posts and ability to maintain your cool when others attack. More egrizzers should practice this behavior and not make disagreements so personal.

Go Griz! :thumb:
