Talkin Schmidt- Post Season Edition

This is among the many reasons that sh!show puffcast has no credibility.

There is not a chance the new president "cleans house" regarding the football program or UM athletics in general. It won't happen - won't even show up on a "to do" list.

2nd - those "blue plate special" dudes with one foot in the grave - pay the bills...you know - actually contribute to the program(s) meaningful, positive ways.

Parasite pudcasters contribute what?
It also sounds like Colter’s best friend seems to be the person he is talking to at any given moment.

You are right and on-fire.

I mean how many young alumni have much disposable income when they are just starting their careers while paying student loans and perhaps starting families?
According to Colter and Andrew, every UM alum they know that went to college with them 20 years ago has enough disposable income for qb club but the qb club has not made them want to feel included.

For the small handful of Griz fans that get so triggered by Schmidt’s opinions, and the GFP’s opinions….where can I find someone arguing the opposite side of this debate? Where, outside of a few shit-posting egriz threads, can I find people arguing the case that the athletic department is doing a great job, and Bobby is doing a great job, and it’s all okay? Because I sure can’t find anything.

If they pay the dues, they can look/listen to the meetings online (or get a link to listen later), get all of the emails (which are many), and get the gear. Do they need graved invitations?

I don't attend many meetings anymore. The meetings are fine, and can be fun, but QB Club is much more than the meetings. I joined when I was in GF and attended zero meetings. I have never done the golf event.

Those comments, if true, sound like whining to me. And, if they have gone to some QB Club meeting or event, and not felt welcome, it might be because of who they are and what they have said about the program.

Schmidt lives outside Missoula and attends qb club meetings virtually already.

Who has argued that the athletic department is doing a great job? I must have missed that? I'm about as positive as anyone on Hauck, and I doubt that I have ever said he has been doing a great job. And no one is saying everything is great and nothing to improve.

The problem is that people like you, neggies, believe 13-2, semis and no. 3 in the nation is a bad season or not-good season; losing 2 games to the national championship is the end of the world, getting to the finals and not winning means that a Hauck-coached team can never win a championship. You basically ignore all of the many good and great things with the program. You use the same general cliches over and over, most of which aren't accurate or applicable, and none of which have any real substance to them. You listen to bench-warmers and other neggies. You run with your narratives and your biases.

You can talk to people in the athletic department. You can talk to coaches. You can talk to QB Club members, the bulk of whom support the program. You can talk to Bodnar. You can talk to some of the downtown business people. You can come to my house. You can talk to my wife then.

Then how does he feel unwelcome when attending virtually?
From what I understand he was saying his teammates besides Andrew Selle and a few others do not feel welcome to join even though they can afford it. I don’t know why he said that, I have never attended qb club myself so I can’t give an opinion on this.

From what I can tell, I would guess that many of his teammates don't particularly like him and didn't when he was in college either.

Football 13-2 this season and final 4. Played in National Championship game 2 years ago. Won the MBB's regular season and tournament last year. Soccer has won Big Sky tournament last year and has been dominant last few years. Men's tennis 2025 Big Sky Champs. Volleyball showed dramatic improvement. Lady Griz hoops struggling big time. Softball too. So overall Griz athletics is above average to really good. Could be better..yes. Sucks losing to the Cats. But if you step back and look at it objectively...

It sounds like what you are seeking is competent sports journalism. I’m with you.

Unfortunately the podcast you refer to is clearly not that. As Uncle Rico suggested above, it’s all entertainment.

To clarify, you believe that both the GFP and Colters pods provide incompetent “journalistic” content? I agree there’s an entertainment aspect, but at the very least, both pods contain debate and they are fulsome (recurring and extensive). The GFP doesn’t even have an advertising aspect to it, so I don’t even know how much you can attribute the “entertainment” component to them.

GFP guys love the University of Montana. That’s why I listen to them. Being fans doing a show is their appeal. Being so close to UM they have great discussions and ask great questions. By definition they are not sports journalists. Nor do they try to be.

Colter’s podcast with Schmidt is pure entertainment. The fart sounds are kind of a giveaway. It’s also not sports journalism. It’s ‘look at me’ podcasting filled with unsubstantiated and inflammatory comments.

Colter also does a podcast with Jordan Tripp. It provides in depth Xs & Os analysis. It’s an excellent listen.

I don't mean to disparage them at all. I listen to both and am entertained. With Schmidt when he makes a point with a fart sound is that journalism or entertainment? I think that even Schmidt posted that he isn't a journalist so he doesn't need 2 sources so he is just going to throw it out to the universe. Sports and news podcasts today start off with a bias generally and then just provide whatever needed to support that. They have to fill a lot of time. It was painful for Schmidt to sound optimistic about anything after SDSU and South Dakota wins. Even Colter after Griz lost to Cats was going on about how South Dakota "sucked." When Colter writes his articles for Skyline he does a great job and he is acting as a journalist. When he does his podcast he sounds just like a fan having beers at The Press Box. I think GFP members don't consider themselves journalists hence the "fan" part of their title. Both are entertainment. And there is nothing wrong with that. Sports is entertainment after all.

Let me make it more concise and concrete.

Edward R. Murrow was a journalist.

Joe Rogan is not a journalist.

I believe we had the same discussion a few years ago about the Missoulian when they first started to falter. Taking down the University was ok as long as they could sell papers. A lot of opinions masquerading as truths were printed.
