Sugar Bowl

In total defense, Georgia is ranked 19th and Hawaii 35th.

In scoring defense, Georigia is ranked 25th and Hawaii is 41st.

They're a darn sight better than that tonight. The Rainbow Warriors are getting beat like a rented mule.

The WAC took several steps backwards tonight. The BCS folks are not going to be real interested in a WAC team for quite a while. This game was about as close as Montana Tech came to the Griz BB team.

Thanks to all those who wanted to bet me on this game. I am looking forward to all your payments. As usual, Paypal is accepting your credit card payments. Thanks for playing. :thumb:

I like Hawaii. But do you think the fans will gripe because they only went 12-1? Sounds like someone else..... gimme a minute.

maybe some people will get a clue now as to how wide the gap is when the best team in Hawaii history with the record setting QB gets their ass handed to them. The WAC won't be in any BCS games for a LONG time

The difference between Hawaii going 12-1 and UM going 11-1 is the expectations.

Hawaii fans thought they could go 12-0 and get into a good bowl. They knew that it would be an uphill battle against a good team in a bowl, but still hoped to win.

Montana fans thought they would go 11-0 and get into the playoffs. The difference is that this was supposed to be the year. This is all Bobby's recruits and I think most fans welt that this team had the tallent to get to the National Championship. :twocents:

Not saying it is right or wrong, but this is the way that I see it.

I think we were the 7th or 8th best team this year including NDSU.
Top teams that had a chance had very good QB's.

The announcers mentioned that each week was a test to see if Hawaii could get in a good bowl game. They knew they must be undefeated to get a good bid. We could have lost at least a couple of games and still made the playoffs.

Kudos to Hawaii for having a great season and congratulations to Georgia for having an awsome team at the right time.

They mentioned that June Jones hadn't been to the mainland for 3 years to recruit. This game might put enough money in Hawaii's coffers to allow that. So who knows what the future might bring.

Hawaii learned that a weak ass schedule will not prepare you for a tough Game. There were FCS teams with tougher schedules than Hawaii had.

They never had a prayer. I made some bucks on this game and I gave 20 points.

Not even close to our situation.

Hawaii is so far behind Georgia. Georgia has every advantage in money, facilities, tradition, support, and talent. The Hawaii fans could not have expected to win this game.

Now at UM, we should be more like Georgia to every other team in the FCS. We should have just as much of an advantage over most every team in FCS as Georgia has over Hawaii. But we don't beat anybody, outside of Fort lewie, like Georgia beat Hawaii. :twocents:

An early candidate...but this may be the best post of the year for all of 2008. Well said.

So now- my question to everybody, what can the Griz do (without turning this into a smack fest) to get to get back to that level of play that once was?

I can't agree with the following statement. What's the basis for it?

"We should have just as much of an advantage over most every team in FCS as Georgia has over Hawaii."

What are our supposed advantages, other than a great program/tradition and stadium/game atmosphere? Our recruiting budget isn't huge. We are far from cities and areas with lots of recruits, including recruits with lots of speed. We have a great town, but not great weather. We don't have a city for kids who prefer cities. We don't have a large black population, which would be supportive to blacks.

I'm glad nobody here has gotten into the scheme debate as the announcers did. It's completely bogus. ANY scheme will work given enough talented athletes who buy into it. Hawai'i did NOT lose due to scheme; they lost because of total LOS domination on both sides of the ball.

I see that, as per usual, other than that troll Swilly, you guys have been more than fair to the Rainbows. Good show, guys.

Hawai'i was too amped up at the start, couldn't tackle, couldn't execute. Seemed nervous and didn't play like I've seen them play earlier this year.

Meanwhile Georgia was bigger, faster and stronger.

Not a good mix, and it led to an ugly game. Which is probably just what the BCS wanted, now they can shrug off undefeated mid-majors saying they don't want a repeat of Georgia-Hawai'i

Isn't that enough proof to you PR??

Compare WA-Griz to the High school stadiums around the FCS (most don't break 5K per game in attendance) If I'm a FCS prospect looking for a FCS home....Where am I going to sign?

A)Big time setting with a packed house of 25K x 7-10 games per year
B) Some place that barely if ever makes the playoff's and plays on a cruddy field, in front of a small fan base?

Don't forget...there has been a fair amount of Griz playing in the Pro's, that in something players looking for a home and an opportunity to play a lot and showcase their talents would ahve to consider.

Montana as a state is also an attractive recruiting tool (recreation, quality of life, etc) to a lot of kids.

Speed can get on an airplane as well, I don't buy that there is not enough speed out there (and I don't look at race as a requirement for winning or for speed), and I also don't believe you have to have the fastest players to win games.

Carroll South aka Wofford proved that to the entire world a few weeks back.

I'm with you part way here, Re/Max. I certainly agree that the Rainbows were too excited to start. In fact, I though that one or two of them were going to be the second coming of Steve Tasker. And GA's speed certainly made fools of the Rainbows' OL and DL. These together led to my point about total LOS domination, which led to your "ugly game" theory.

But the B(C)$ can't just "shrug off" undy mid-majors just like that. At least not logically. So HI wasn't as prepared as they should have been. Logically, to paint ALL mid-majors like that just doesn't hold water. All one has to do is look back to last year's Fiesta Bowl. (Power conference critics of Boise's tactics notwithstanding; that was just sour grapes, IMO.)

Of course, there's nothing to prohibit them from "conveniently" ignoring Boise's success last year. They probably will. I'm just saying that it won't be logical or fair, Swilly and his ilk be d***ed.

What recruiting advantage does UM have over other top I-AA programs, like App. St., Delaware, JMU, Georgia Southern, Furman, Northern Iowa, Youngstown State, McNeese, etc?
