Stats Poll - 9/2/24

Griz were missing three, yes three, preseason All American candidates. I think they will be just fine when healthy. The defense has a lot of new names and will have to find their identity. Offense is going to be great. Need to clean up some catches and pound the rock a bit more IMO. Poles, who needs them. Win the BSC, smash the kittens and silence doubters.

Why was Mellott in game in 4th Q against lowly Utah Tech? Were the Cats still worried about the outcome?

"Star senior quarterback Tommy Mellott dove into the end zone from 1 yard out to put the Bobcats up 31-0 early in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game at Utah Tech."

Don't strippers need them?

No idea why he was in the game. I think they are trying to continue to get him game reps passing the ball and getting used to the new receivers (Jones, Ryan, and Jr) but he got cramped on a option play that he kept. Reed did play the rest of the game and to be flat out honest he looked pretty poor.

Wut? This makes no sense. They wanted to get him “game reps passing the ball” by calling more running plays near the end zone? Seems like perfect bubcatz logic. Can’t believe it backfired.

Also, weren’t you claiming the back up was more dynamic than Wet Palm Tommy? And threatening that Griz nation would soon know the backup QB’s name? What happened? Were you lying or just being dumb again?

They are definitely ineligible for the playoffs, but I thought they could still be ranked. The Ivy's can be ranked even though they don't participate in the playoffs.
Nothing stopping the press from ranking any FCS teams even if they are transitioning. I think a lot of people conflate rankings with playoffs, when they are two different things. HBCUs can be ranked too and they traditionally don't partake in the playoffs. Not sure if it's a conference or NCAA thing but teams transitioning also aren't eligible to win their conferences.

Idaho would've been an interesting case study for ranking when they transitioned to FCS since they weren't eligible to win the Big Sky or playoffs until they were back under the FCS scholarship limit. But they were so awful I guess it didn't even matter.

Considering this comes from Herder who is a member of the voting press, I would tend to believe his notes on the ballot are accurate.

“Delaware and Missouri State, FCS-to-FBS transitioning teams, are not eligible to be voted on in the poll.“

The only time polls matter are when they're in November. Completely meaningless until that point.

Ah I didn't think there were any actual rules about voting - good to know.

Well that's very interesting because JMU WAS ranked in 2021 in both the Coaches poll and the STATS poll, before moving up in 2022. Take a look at the rankings here:

So either it changed in the past 3 years or Sam is simply incorrect.

EDITED: We played JMU in the playoffs that same year (and lost). Nothing makes sense.

Question for you guys… if the gris did lose (yes I know they won) where do you think would’ve been a fair place to put them? Also if they dominated where would’ve been a fair place to put them?
#1. They're the best team in the country.

If the bubs played a real team, where do you think it'd be fair to place them? I say about 88th.

On November 6, 2021, it was announced that the James Madison football program had accepted an invitation to move up to the FBSand would join the Sun Belt Conference prior to the 2023 football season.[37] In response to this announcement, the all-sports CAA announced that James Madison would be banned from the conference's championships for the remainder of their time in the conference. This ban did not apply to football because CAA Football had no such provision in its bylaws.[38]

Subsequently, James Madison announced they had finalized their departure from the CAA on February 2, 2022, and would join the FBS and the Sun Belt for the 2022-23 season.”

It’s back to the basement of Brick Breeden under protective custody for Merlot.
