The pollsters treated South Dakota State about like we expected. That, of course, allowed MSU to move into the two spot. They also, as expected, hammered Villanova and Mercer. That was enough to move the Griz into the Top-10.

Frustrating how close we are to being 7-0. Weber squeaked past us (not that we should have even let them be close) and we were up big on ND at half. sigh.

7-0 and we're probably the #2 team in the country.

6-1 with just the UND loss and we're probably #4.

While I know Montana on the field has a lot to clean up they could very realistically find themselves there if they can win the next 4 games (UNC / Poly / Davis / PSU). Only 1 *should* be a real tough one, but with this team, who knows haha. If the Griz can be 9-2 headed into the brawl with a top 5 win against Davis they'll be in great shape. Would be vying for a top 6 seed I'd venture, maybe even a top 4 as the MVFC will continue to beat up on each other.

Now... drop UCD and MSU.... could sneak in considering how weak a broad amount of the FCS appears but we're talking a real low seed, if even a seed at all.

Drop any of the UNC/Poly/PSU games and it's goodnight.

Agreed. No game from here on out is a guarantee for this Griz team lol. However, the Griz are in the drivers seat still and they have a great opportunity to set up for a very important matchup against UC Davis in Washington-Grizzly Stadium in 3 weeks.

Why isn’t Missouri State being ranked? Thought that was a quality win but doesn’t seem like they are on the radar with 5-2 record and being 3rd in the Missouri valley. Am I missing something?

for sure one of the south dakota teams will lose this week and UND seems like usually has a tough game with youngstown so there is an outside chance there as well. I can see us already in the top 6 by the time we play davis...

They're moving up to FBS so they are not eligible for rankings or playoffs this year.
I have always found it funny (and a bit annoying) that while teams who are moving up to FBS are ineligible to be in the FCS rankings, yet the Ivy League schools (Dartmouth) are eligible for the top 25 rankings when they don't participate in the FCS Playoffs.

Agreed, especially now that 24 teams make the playoffs. It doesn't make sense to have teams in the poll who are ineligible for the playoffs.

They are 18th in the FCS Coaches Poll. Not eligible for media poll because they are transitioning to FBS

With as unknown as our D has played ANY of the games left on our schedule are a toss up. We get in a shoot out with Webs and loose at home to then have Webs loose at home to UNC. UNC gave up way less points than we did…. So who the hell knows how any of these games turn out.
We just don’t seem to have the horses or attitude on D this year to me to make a run or really even make the playoffs. Maybe the NAU games was the start of a turning point for our D. Let’s hope!

The next two weeks will be critical . Will the defense get on the same page and show some promise?
Hopefully the bye week gives them some time to get things figured out. If they continue to give up yards and points as they have I will concede we don’t have the horses on defense. I’m not convinced of it quite yet..
Go Griz!

Is it, though, or is that a bias because we all underrated our out of conference?

Missouri state scored 24 against us. Since then they have scored 34, 14, 31, 38, and 41.

We held UND to 27 points. Since then, they have scored 52, 41, 72, 41, and 31.

Eastern put up 49 on us. That game obviously got wild. But they have also put up 35 and 38 since they played us.

Weber put up 55 on us. That sucked, obviously. But they have also scored 48, 39, and 43 points against Big Sky Conference team.

Maybe we were just a little too used to having a top 5 defense every single year. We've played some offenses that have shown they can put up big points. Some of those teams we have held to far less than others have held them to.

Yes, there is still work to do, as there always is at this point in the season. I'm not even close to throwing in the towel on this season.

Inaccurate information about UND.

They did not score 41 points against NDSU. They scored 17 points.

And since that loss, the programs they have scored those points against?

Idaho State - 3-5 and 11th place currently in Big Sky

San Diego- No scholarships and 5th place currently in Pioneer

Murray State- 1 win team and last place currently in MVFC.

Northern Iowa- 2 win team and 10th in MVFC.

Hate to break it to you but the Griz defense sucks. Defensive line will be completely manhandled by anyone in the top 4 right now.

There is a significant difference between any of those teams this year and the Griz.

You're right. I counted the 41 twice, that's my bad.

And you covered one team, but even against a bad defense putting up those kind of points isn't easy.

Regardless, my point wasn't that the Griz defense is a world beater, but that it is being severely underrated. We have been holding up as well or better defensively against our opponents than most of their other opponents are. We may not have a top 5 defense, but we are not nearly as bad as you and some others are portraying us. If we are at an average FCS level defense now, we will be pretty good by the end of the year.
