Statistical Comparison: UM vs MSU

You think the Cats offense is the same as last year production wise? Yikes…. For your sake please do a little research before you bet on the game! You’re right though it doesn’t matter. We’re all stuck in our ways and that makes it fun. None of us have any factor on the game. You’re right as well, MSU has been banged up all year. Good teams win without key players. Been doing it all season. Gris fell short of doing that. So we will see.

The Cats did handle UCD, who just handled Idaho. Idaho gave you guys some fits from what I’ve heard. We also beat WSU.

Ah, the old “football transitive properties” schtick. I applaud you sir!

Honestly, it’s gonna be a hell of a game. It always is! Rivalries are what makes college football fun. Can Saturday come already?!?

You’re telling me… how can anyone focus this week? What if the fans are ready for the game? Maybe we can start early 😂

Yeah, great point-- you wouldn't pay up anyways.

How about this, take the bet. When you lose, you post on this board that "without exception or caveat, Griz football is the best in the State of Montana." This runs until the playoffs are over. Simple and easy.

Haha what do I get if I win? :o

Ahhh, yes, that's the fun of it hahaha-- come up with something. That simply didn't enter into the realm of possible for me.

That is a dangerous proposition and probably in violation of several OSHA regulations. Which bar? You can’t say Rockin R.

When I win. You need to put “Cats own the State”. no quotes around it either, must be a statement. Nothing more, nothing less.

Bars are a dime a dozen. Doesn’t matter to me. They’re all fun with the right crowd. Happy hour is always easier on the wallet.

Get real bro. The cats didn't beat Weber. Weber spotted the cats 8 points on safeties. Those 8 points beat Weber.
Weber lost the game with the cats.

Don't forget those 8 points also awarded MSU 4 extra possessions which helped them out immensely.

Wat? No. We would have been getting the ball anyway because we had forced them to punt so many times. How many of those punts would have been returned for TDs with Taco back there? At least one, no doubt.

Four extra possessions? Please explain, in detail, your logic of how the Cats were given extra possessions in that game. Curious how this math equation is put together in that dance school brain of yours.

I'll be shocked if Lucas Johnson doesn't play, 7th year senior transferred here, could be his last football game ever, I would imagine he will give it a go, even at 50%. I do like our chances if Britt is next man up or Johnson starts, but still, who knows. Ultimately I think this game will come down to Rosenbach's play calling and willingness to adjust. Cats are going to run the ball, no big secret. Maybe we stop it, maybe we don't. I think it comes down to if we can't run the ball on offense, do we keep forcing it to remain balanced or air it out? As a Griz fan this would be a bummer of a team not to make the playoffs, I think this is one of the more balanced teams we've had in a long time and I think we have a 50/50 shot to make playoffs if we lose. It's been a weird year, we have came out on fire quite a few times and then slowed down in the 2nd half a few times. We can't do that against the Cats. They will grind the ball and slow the game down. I don't think you can take records into account on this one, I think both teams are very good, Cats got lucky and beat Weber at home we lost at Weber w Kris Brown. That's the way the ball bounces sh*t happens. We lost to Sac on the road, Cats beat Davis at home, which turns out to be a very good win. We both blew out bad teams. Blah, blah, blah. This should be a very good matchup. I would bet on Lucas Johnson playing over the outcome. And I would bet on a lot of out staters moving to Bozeman after Game Day goes there. Cat fans enjoy your new neighbors.

There weren’t extra possessions, but the cats certainly got better field position after the free kicks from the 20. And wouldn’t this burrito guy have had 4 return opportunities on the free kicks?

In either event, anyone who claims the cats weren’t gifted that game and the GRIZ were shafted out of a win at Sac is just disingenuous.

Whatever you want to believe. Vigen knows how to prepare his teams to win. He's like 20-2 in FCS games with the only losses coming last year to the griz and NDSU. Not always pretty but his teams find ways to win. It's a culture thing. The griz...... well based on this year's version it appears they find ways to not win the close games, and then make excuses. Gonna be epic.

So, absolutely no arguments to refute the points I made. Got it. Not that I expected any rational ones anyway.

Congrats to Sixx! Good on 'im for that whole culture thing, I guess. Although the cultured look he had on his face for four hours last year in the Brawl sure looked a lot like "What in the actual fvck?!?!?"

Forced them to kickoff after giving up points, a few times allowing much for better field position since they were from the 20, should have clarified that point.

Each of those safeties was during a punt situation so the Cats would have been getting the ball anyway.
Here's an actuals to estimates for starting field position using Weber's net punt average for the season which is 38yds thus far.

First Safety - Ball on WSU 19 + 38yds, Cats start on their own 43 yard line (actual start after safety kickoff MSU 35) net lost 8 yards
Second Safety - Ball on WSU 33 + 38yds, Cats start on their own 29 yard line (actual start after safety kickoff MSU 41) net gain 12 yards
Third Safety - Ball on WSU 30 + 38yds, Cats start on their own 32 yard line (actual start after safety kickoff MSU 35) net gain 3 yards
Fourth Safety - Ball on WSU 34 + 38yds, Cats start on their own 28 yard line (actual start after safety kickoff MSU 38) net gain 10 yards

I wouldn't call this a game changing significance in field position for the game. I would call each of them significant swings in momentum though.

The 2 points you got on each one seemed pretty significant, too

Why are you using average punt distance and not acutal punt distance? They still punted each time, so you know the actual distance of each punt. It's just that they did it from the 20, and without having gunners down field as you would on a normal punt. Your math is very msuish.

Back at you. I mean I've always known your fanbase in general is super arrogant, cocky, and overconfident and usually have an inflated idea of how good the griz are, but this year seems worse than most. I cannot believe the number of griz fans I'm encountering that are convinced the griz are going to blow the Cats out of the water Saturday. Oddsmakers put the griz as slight underdogs, and I know thousands of overconfident griz fans are betting heavy on griz to win. All that said, I guess it's possible the Cats get blown out but I'm not thinking that happens. We'll see.

And which punts would those be , the "punts" they used a kickoff tee for?
