Statement from Royce Engstrom

A letter to the editor from today's Missoulian:

"Our former U.S. Rep. Pat Williams has once again opened his mouth and shown what a despicable person he really is. We have seen how this desperate individual will stop at nothing to garner some attention to himself as he lay on the trash heap of washed-up politicians.

When the University of Montana is working tirelessly to attract students to our campus, we have this washed-up egomaniac contacting the New York Times. And if that’s not enough, he is on the Board of Regents stating that our coaches are recruiting thugs. Has he ever taken the time to look at the 99 percent of our student athletes who are excelling in the classroom and on the playing field? No. The coaches, staff and athletic director of the University of Montana are, from top to bottom, beyond reproach.

Williams has repeatedly shown his disdain toward our student athletes and I feel is on a one-man show to harm this fine institution.

When the truth is really out it wouldn’t surprise me to see his name as leading the assault against Jim O’Day and Robin Pflugrad; by the way, two wonderful gentlemen.

Williams, if you have an ounce of dignity left you will do the right thing and resign from the Board of Regents.

I love this university, and yes we have had our trying times and we will work through this and be better in the end. But who in their right mind would allow a one-man wrecking ball to destroy the reputation of the University of Montana?

Larry Ashcraft, Polson"

CT, I challenge you to actually have a 5 minute conversation with the man about his knowledge of Griz basketball (or any UM sport) and then come back and post. Be a man and take up my challenge. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by his knowledge and passion of UM's sports.

(and yes, this ridiculous conversation begun because posters insinuated that Waded was attended the BB game and Engstrom did not).

He is knowledgeable about basketball and prefers it to football. (Told from him directly). Did he make other huge mistakes? These are unrelated topics. ;)

I want to see his statement after JJ's trails. If he is acquitted the. We will likely see a "no comment". Guilty - Rolls will be sure to make a fat statement for the media.

The lawsuits will be coming from all directions. Believe me.

Stubbins works in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay...

I like it. I think the President might be better than most of us have given him credit. He is and will remain a strong Griz supporter.

Could you imagine taking over a new job and walking into the football confusion he has faced? I think he and the university are doing a good job considering the amount of experience they hold.

One of the issues lots of fans do not understand is that shortly before our football "problems" all popped up is that a number of university staff members, who work closely with the football program, retired. With that being said, some of the internal structure for recruiting, locating, placing, directing, was in limbo. The retirees would be hard to replace. They all helped Griz players stay on top of things.

If Mick and the team do well this season, there will be lots of folks who will be given credit. But if the ship sails with strength, belief, and success then we may all have to stand back and truly appreciate Mick/staff and all the new guys who took us through some pretty choppy waters.

I am thinking we might be in for a pretty great season!

Wrong....f***[*] created the choppy waters by firing two men who didn't need firing. The legal situation would have played itself out. Royce is a flaming douche...and ptgrizzly is a grade A f*** chop...

This pretty much sums it up for me too

Yeah, like I would take any advice from a dude who actually brags about being from the worst burb in the Seattle metro...

A five minute convo with Royce? I don't know if I could make it 15 seconds without dragging that dolt to the bathroom for a much needed swirlie.

He must be a man of conviction who has faith in his actions. That would be why he spent the first few weeks after the firings hiding at his old house in Miller Creek instead of the president's house?

I'm also pretty sure the only time pleasantly surprised and Royce's name would be used in a sentence would be something like... "Corey Trevor was pleasantly surprised to learn that President Engstrom was critically injured after receiving an atomic wedgie by an entire Missoula area high school wrestling team"

One -- and not that it matters one shit -- but I don't live in Everett. Not that Everett is a bad town. It's come along way and is actually pretty damn cool.

Two, haters gonna hate and no amount of objectivity will change it. Your minds made up. So be it.
