Spring Practices

It’s not a “pick”. This is not just me guessing.
I don’t think you understand the positions and rotations and appreciate that this is an actual move with a big leapfrog. Hill rarely, if ever, played Jace’s spot last year, and was not listed on the 2deep there. It is a very different position with almost opposite responsibilities. I think Hill only played the position once in garbage time. They don’t just plug in players where ever (unless it’s a blowout). They usually must practice at that spot all year, and only get in according to the rotation. Welnel and Hill were competing for the same spot, but not now. This might be the biggest move so far in spring ball.
No wonder all the good posters left 20 years ago. Offer a morsel of inside knowledge and get mocked with ridicule by someone 1000 miles away who does not understand/appreciate.

Jesus H. #f##k# Christ....get your panties out of your vagina. I wasn't "mocking" or "ridiculing" you. It was an attempt at sarcasm. What are you, 12?
You shouldn’t take the Lord’s name in vain, or discriminate based on age.
I am not wearing panties at this moment and do not currently have female genitalia on my person.
If you did not intend to mock or ridicule me, you should apologize for your hurtful emoji’s which sent laughing blades of pure pain straight through my heart.
Also, I think it is your sarcasm meter which is malfunctioning. Mine is always turned up to 11

Allow me to whet your appetite with a juicy nugget to gnaw on. Ever notice how Louie hardly ever came out of the game? Seriously, dude played like every down.

On the 2deeps, the backup for his spot was usually Mathhews I think (maybe Flink snuck in there too). Who’s going to take over that LB spot?

Here’s a hint: the kid is from Anaconda and he’s a total F’n beast. A move from strong side to weak. More responsibility including more reverses, cut backs, etc.

Thus, the starting LBs for the spring game will be Welnel, Hill, Janacaro (I believe Patty Ice is out temporarily).

Ya, but what kind of a family does he come from? Is Anaconda close enough to Butte where the toughness could still be there, albeit in a smaller amount? (Sorry CDA... that shiznit is just too funny to not join in the fun lol)

Everyone, even Bobcat fans, is hereby granted a license to the Butte/Montana Tough bit. :thumb:

Are you kidding. Is this a real question?
Anaconda makes Butte look like Oprah’s Book Club.

It sucks but they are not even a rivalry anymore.

I caught a little bit of yesterdays. Honestly - based on the discussion here, the tough thing for reporting regular practice updates is that for a little while practices have been closed because coaches did not like information such as starting groups and injuries being posted on message boards so they locked down practices somewhat. I’ve enjoyed being able to make it to a handful just to see how the team looks.

From my observation yesterday it definitely seemed like a pretty energetic and spirited practice. It seems to me like this massive group of underclassmen is getting a lot of work to determine who might be a reliable contributor for the next season versus who is still progressing along and needs more time before they break through the 2 deep.

Just like you probably saw from the football Twitter account, it’s good to see guys like Marcus Knight back out there.

The one thing about Hauck spring camps is that there is not a whole lot of live action the fans would really enjoy. It’s a whole lot of individual drills that are usually broken down to position groups. Was there for 90 minutes and near half of what I saw was drills that seemed focused on special teams work. Not that that’s a bad thing - it’s just tough for a fan to see how new starters look, etc.

Going to try to catch a few more next week as well.

Information/Schminformation. I just want charts and graphs, dammit.

way to go out on a limb with the Hill pick.   Dude was 1st LB off the bench consistently all season.

Amen. This is why many good to great posters, myself included, choose not to share the info they have on here. Too many critics, and my little heart can't take it. Instead, I choose to post about how people used to post inside info but now choose not to. It makes me feel better. When I first came here 40 something years ago people posted only about Xs, Os, and box scores. Now, it seems like mild pissing matches and memes are more prevalent, on weekdays, in the offseason. Internet sports message boards were once a fertile ground of information, ideas, and brotherhood where everyone got along.

I love the bobcat football player in the lower left hand corner, lying face down in his own ruin

Does anyone have any info on spring practices that’s what this post was supposed to be made for or at least I thought? I’d love some good quality info? How’s that OL looking? how is the QBs coming along?

Daniel Britt turning heads. Johnson looking really damn good too. We’re gonna have a battle.

I attended practice today. Pretty difficult to judge with mostly group drills. I mostly focused on qbs though.

Reps were Johnson, Britt and Brown splitting their reps. Number 14 isn't on the roster yet. He has a good arm though. Johnson and Britt each threw nice long passes. Brown threw a couple far out and or flag sideline passes, with velocity and accuracy.

Britt makes quick decisions, gets rid of the ball quick, made a few questionable decisions, and doesn't throw a bad pass. Johnson made terrific decisions, accurate, and with good strength. Brown has improved. Physically, he looks the part. He was a little inconsistent, compared to Johnson and Britt.

As for WRs, Fontes, Flowers, and Deck really stood out to me. Deck looks a lot like Sulser, JLM, and Bergen in terms of hands, speed, athleticism. Simpson looked good too. He's finally got some bulk to him.

Defense was intense. Cotton had a HUGE hit on Roberts. It was clean too. I have ZERO concerns for the defense.

Knight did some drills and was working out on the sideline. I doubt, we see much of him this spring.

Overall, I was impressed with how competitive things were. Execution and attention to detail were impressive also.

Johnson's taking the QB1 helm (I think) and once he gets more time/familiarity in the program he'll only get better. But damn... I'm excited for what Britt's shown, and honestly Brown looks good too. I think we're in pretty good shape at QB.

QB success depends on how well our O-Line can block....If they are sub-par again, we go no where.
