Spring game questions.

Thanx IntuitiveGriz. I was hoping to come up for the game but we are suppose to get another 6 to 12 inches of snow starting Thurs. We will shatter the all time record for snow in Billings with this storm. I will be watching intently with a beer or two or seven. Go Griz. Can't wait to see how we look.

What do you think will be attendance for spring game Saturday?
What is the weather supposed to be like?

I would guess there is 5-6,000, based on what I have heard.

It's supposed to be 55 degrees on Saturday. Translated to e-griz/native Missoulian, that is 15 degrees, with a below zero windchill. You'll see the theatrics in the post game wrap up.

I already have a draft post-game write up indicating the sheer cold and horrid weather conditions clearly had a negative effect on all abilities to properly execute.

What was the spring game attendance like in the stitt years? And does anyone want to throw out a number predicting attendance..... if the attendance is sparse you really feel it in Wa-griz. When they travel the thing around the state to the smaller stadiums feels like it’s a bigger deal. Would be sweet to market it and turn it into a well attended rite of spring in the rtd. Thnaks

Stitt had one spring game in Missoula, it was dumping rain the whole time I remember that. I think there was 3000(ish) there. They cancelled a lot of the pre-game events due to weather. I helped sling beers at the GSA tailgate and everyone just huddled under the tents to stay dry.

The two road spring games were Butte and Helena. Both really well attended, like you said Dutch, being away from Missoula it had a lot of excitement built around it in the local community. Helena's they had Carroll scrimmage beforehand as well.

Best attended spring game we've ever had was the year we finally got lights in the stadium and that was essentially the unveiling of them. Early evening start, 60 degree weather, great attendance, they estimated around 6000 people.

Does anyone know if there will be food vendors there? I don't want to disparage Butte but the only entree available last year was the signature pork chop sandwich. Perfectly good fare for most but the onions and mustard made for a long drive home. My system can better digest hot dogs - not a quality health statement on my part I know.

Staggering Ox was also at the butte spring game.

Really wish they would consider holding this spring game in Great Falls in the future. Great falls is closer to the center of the state and I believe would draw a large crowd due to driving distances.

There are plenty of rabid Griz fans in Great Falls that constantly travel to see the Spring Game. Meanwhile the scats have their Triangle Classic here every year. Somethings amiss with this scheduling.... GO GRIZ!!!!

Love to see a spring scrimmage between Cats and Griz...

Is the Golden Triangle Classic the reason the Griz don't come to Great Falls? I'm willing to bet there are more Griz fans here than cat fans.

A couple years ago my wife and I went out to breakfast the morning after the cats scrimmage. We were wearing our Griz stuff like always. There were about 15-20 msu quarterback club members eating in the restaurant. We got so many dirty looks, all I could do was grin. Like I say, they hate us cuz they ain't us!

The reason that the scrimmage is never scheduled for Great Falls is because the local GSA already has the spring barbecue in May. From my understanding the Great Falls GSA spring barbecue is the largest GSA fundraiser in the state outside of the one in Missoula. The barbecue is always held in May and has become a well attended event. They would never be able to bring in as much money by hosting the spring game as they do with the barbecue.

Makes sense but still a bummer. I hope to make the bbq this year!

Yes, the GSA BBQ is a well attended event and is one of the largest fundraisers of GSA in the state. I haven't missed this event in many years. I always buy some treasures. However, I think it would be fantastic to have the spring game and BBQ at the same time. Double the earnings for GSA.
If anyone has the opportunity to attend the GSA BBQ, you won't be disappointed!

In regards to the Triangle Classic. The Bobcats were told this year that if the weather is nice they won't be allowed to use Memorial stadium because of renovations. If the weather is crappy, they can have their game. Also, this event for the Bobcats is one of their largest fund raisers as well. They will have an NFL guest speaker at their dinner. Rod Woodson this year I believe. Cost of their dinner is like $65-$85 per person where the Griz GSA is only $10.

I was at both the Helena and Butte scrimmages, and yes they were well attended. Butte's would have even been better attended had Montana Tech not been scrimmaging blocks away at the same time, as well as HS sports...

I am hella excited for the Missoula scrimmage! (I was at the 6k attended one as well)

Scrimmage will be televised by SWX Montana. Available over the air (check your local station) for free, or via cable on Charter Cable channel 199. Also on your smartphone, via the free WATCHSWX app.
