sportsmanship/rivalry

I went over to bobcatnation and there was a thread about a fan in the Montana section threw a bag of feces at a msu player during the 2nd quarter, the perpetrator was thrown out of the stands this coming from the players mom. wtf is wrong with some people, I mean I get the back and forth between rivals but this is bad for any fan base. we all know we have them but come on.
Unfortunately iIwas told this yesterday by a friend whom was at the game. Guy was sitting a few rows in front of him. He should face charges for assault if true. I didn't see what did the bobcat players do after the game everyone is crying about.

If true the guy shoulld be banned from UM sporting events for life. Probably some mandatory psychiatric care sessions as well

Choate calling time out when the play was fully implemented is suspect WHY because it tip the hand
of Griz play..he knew that..sure the Griz should have changed the play but the clock was running...
coach ethics?

I’m amazed this is even a topic and that there is more than one person complaining about it.

The timeout was 100% legit.

Choate had already talked to the ref letting him know he’d be calling a timeout. He waited until the griz lined up to see the formation and he called a timeout, the ref was blowing the whistle, waving his arms, and a few steps out into the field by the time the ball was snapped.

With the game on the line and timeouts in his pocket, why would he not call a timeout there?

Blame your coach for going back to the same play twice in a row. Should have been fairly obvious that the Cats would come out with a different look out of the timeout.
Blame your o-line for getting tossed around with the game on the line.
Blame your running back for fumbling.
But to suggest it was unethical for Choate to call a timeout there?! That might be the dumbest thing I’ve read on this forum, and that’s saying a lot.

The way I understand things, Choate broke no rules, nor did the officials, on the play in question. I hated it, have always hated it, will always hate it. I hate it the way it is done on field goals as well. But as of right now, I believe it is part of the game, and always will be. UNLESS they make a rule that says that a call for a time out will be ignored if not made before the center places his hands on the ball at the normal start of a play, or something similar that is workable.

In all honesty, can't you see Bobby doing the exact same thing?

Yes I can. But I still don't like it. My personal opinion is that it detracts from the game, not adds to it.

I second this and not just because of yesterday. Have for a while. I don't think it's within the spirit of the game.

The ref was absolutely not blowing the whistle waving his arms and a few feet onto the field as the ball was snapped. That is patently false. Choate most likely did indicate some intention of a timeout, but the other part is not correct.

I brought my 9yr old son to his first Cat/Griz game/college game yesterday in Missoula. We had tickets smack dab in the middle of the NEZ. I can say without a doubt, that other than a couple loudmouth, profane jerks(which all fan bases have), we were treated awesome in a very hostile environment. Thank you to all the Griz fans in and out of the NEZ for making his first game memories all good. We were decked out in blue and gold and cheered our team loud and proud. We had some good ribbing back and forth but all in good fun. I want to teach my son how to win and lose with class and I think he got to see a great example of that in Missoula yesterday. How lucky are we in MT to get to be a part of such an intense, passionate rivalry. I dislike the griz to my bone, but am proud to know these two teams represent our state. In about 2 min time yesterday, both fan bases felt the emotions of winning and losing. What a crazy, memorable game. Thank you for making it an experience my son and I will never forget. Til next year...

He did, I thnk it was right before our first touchdown, he waited to see the formation and called a TO, Same thing Choate did.

if i knew how to add a video or pictures i have the time out being called before the snap. Choate is literally standing beside the official at the goal line waiting to call. The timeout was called in time with out question.

I don't think there was any doubt the time out was called in time, smart coaching, I don't see any problem with it.
on another topic, what I did have a problem with was how the Cat players acted after the game, heard from many, it was the worst they had ever seen from sportsmanship. Direct reflection of their coaches in my opinon.
I don't agree with how some of the fans acted on both side, win with class and lose with class. One big difference, coaches control their players, or they should. Hope cat coaches learn from this and teach their players about winning with class.

So, back to the human feces claim:

That would be assault, correct? Was there an arrest made?

I'm assuming, if true, that would've made the news. As far as I know, the only shit at the game was made by us, down our own leg, with ten seconds to go.

Cat fans were horrible on the way out of the stadium a drunk cat fan pushed Keenan Curran’s 80 year old grandmother and yelled F### the Griz at her, then a group came up to his family including 6 nephews and nieces under 7 and grandma screaming the same thing repeatedly.

Well, after a long drive home yesterday and nursing a hangover and i'm back at work. Obviously it turned out right for me but I say with sincerity that was a hell of a game and a hell of a weekend. Spent the weekend with my wife and my buddy from college who's a griz fan. He introduced me to countless griz friends and every single one of them were awesome. Pretty sure I went to every bar Missoula had to offer Friday and Saturday nights. Found great food, great drinks, and a great atmosphere.

You guys are damn lucky to watch all your games in wash-griz because it's the game I look forward to going to every other year.

Going back and forth on the idiots who take it too far is pointless. It never changes and happens both places. For every griz fan I saw acting like a clown there was a cat fan doing the same thing. You find what you're looking for. I had an excellent time and met excellent people. For every "Fuck the Cats" I heard walking out of the stadium I heard just as many "congratulations".

It was all good. Thanks for a great weekend. Looks forward of another year of banter leading up to this game next November.

I'm not sure if you have been to any cat/ griz games in Bozeman. But for the last decade you had owned us in our own house. We have become accustomed to seeing these antics after griz wins in bobcat stadium. Not saying I like it. . . But neither side has taken the high road. It ha's almost become a tradition when the foe wins on the road

I don't really care because I don't take taunting personally, and I think it makes the game more fun when the players are having fun.

That said, the Griz have never acted like the cats did at any point in recent memory, regardless of where they won.

It's not so much a sportsmanship thing for me, but more that they looked like they've never won a Brawl in their life, let alone three in a row.
