Sports Illustrated Big Sky Conference Preview

Interesting that they provide their predicted order of finish in the Big Sky for 2024 but give no rationale behind it. They have the Cats finishing first with the Griz second which doesn't make a lot of sense to me considering how their respective seasons went last year combined with graduation and other losses, etc.

One would presume he believes the 'Scats will beat the Griz this year...and the game will be for the conference title once again...

meaningless prediction just something to write about - I give it a D-
I mean, there was a LOT more in there. The prediction was just the very end. I don't follow all the transfers to all the other BSC teams, so I really liked that roundup and the talk about some of the best returning players in the Big Sky.

Who are those writers? Anyone ever hear of them? Just more clowns and know-nothings covering FCS. At least the main guys at Hero have finally learned some things and have good access to info, even if they don't know much about the actual game of football. Hero is now providing a service by gathering information on FCS and presenting it. It looks like those writers forgot to look at some of the Cat games and stats. For example, UM. 7-37 loss. 13 FD's. 280 of TO. Passing 4-16-1 and 1 TD for 67 yards. Mellott was 4-13. Mellott ran 10-108. Davis 14-107. The rest of the team ran backwards. The Cats lost 2 good all-conference o-lineman to the Portal, and 1 similar d-lineman to Portal. Lost their very good second qb, who could spell Mellott and take over when Mellott was down. I will refrain now from making my early prediction, as I did last year, that the Griz will come into the game as the favorite. I want to see what the Cats show early on and to see if the Griz are as good as I think they will be.

Research? RESEARCH?!!! My guess is there was a deadline to meet, and copy to print. Hardly Pulitzer Prize material.💤

I don’t know why his prediction or feelings would ruffle feathers. After the last 4 years, neither team has shown the mental fortitude to handle the brawl as the away team.
People be wildin'.

These ranks are practically always based largely off of the past season. At least it's something to talk about!

Yeah I don't know why people would think it's a stretch for the cats to win the Big Sky with their easy schedule and the fact that we haven't won in bozeman in almost literally 10 years.

I think the issue is that SI is no longer relevant. They probably asked their second cousin from Fargo who to pick.

I though the Hero sports articles were well written and researched. This one not so much.I mean that guy that writes the long desription on here he could have written this one and he does not get paid for it and justifiably so.

My view is that the game has basically been won for reasons other than which stadium it was in. In most respects, the winning team kicked the butts of the losing team.

Other than an easy schedule, I don't understand why people think the Cats are going to be so good this year. Last year, they only beat TWO teams with winning records. Their six other wins were all against teams with losing records. They LOST to all four of the playoff teams they faced.

By contrast, the Griz won NINE games against teams with winning records, while they had four wins against teams with losing records. They also beat 4 of the playoff teams they faced, with the only loss being to SDSU in the natty. Yes, there was that really bad loss to NAU, but in looking at the entire year, that was an anomaly.

Now, no one knows exactly what next year holds for either team, but everyone seems to be assuming that the Griz will be maybe about the same or take a step back, while the Cats are somehow supposed to be a lot better? Based on what exactly? They lost some very good OL players to the portal and their backup QB to graduation. While they have brought in a few people through the portal, I don't think they brought in any QBs. Their QB1 is still a guy who has yet to make it through a season without being injured.

They have two new coordinators who everyone seems to think will be better than Willie Mack (Where's the) Bar-za and House-about-another-drink but have not yet proven themselves.

On the flip side, the Griz have filled holes through the portal seemingly very well. The big question mark is QB but last year's team proved that they don't need an all-world QB to win games.

While the cats do have an easy schedule this year, I still see several games they could lose.

Maybe I'm wrong. If so, someone please convince me about why the Cats are suddenly going to be great this year.
