Some Game Stats

You do realize that he had the most returns because no one was scared to kick it to him. He made poor plays on 2 punts today, and don't give me "he slipped" excuse, he misjudged the punt, and completely over ran it and went done when he tried to correct. Why do you think the EWU punt returners have so few returns? It is because teams kick away from them.

No, he didn't overrun one today. He tripped before he got to it. Another poster who said he was in the endzone said that the punt curved/curled in a funny way. Sorry, it's not true that teams kicked away from other punters but kicked to Nguyen. Again, 2d leading punter in the conference. Why would teams kick away from other lesser punters but kick to the 2d leading punter. My god, man, please don't embarrass yourself with such dumb statements.

Playerep is right again as he is most times. Leave the kid alone he does the best he can and is a good player.

I said it...I've never seen a punt curve like that, it was the weirdest thing. It was completely uncatchable. I hope someone can get their hands on the coaches endzone film on it.

Let us no forget that Alpha does not really think these things. These are not his opinions. He lies with every single post he makes then gets drunk call his friends and laughs at all the replies. Its a proven FACT. He will even tell you this.

greenie is right in this thread. the only way the griz would have had a better punt returner this year is if they had recruited one. why isn't anybody picking on van for that crucial third down drop?

Griz scored on the drive that Nguyen let the punt roll to the 5. But I agree he seemed scared to field a punt in traffic.
Things are a little fuzzy this morning, but I believe the ensuing drive resulted in the Van fumble. After Haynes went sideways instead of forward on the first play getting 9 yards, then the no call head shot on Saylor deep middle, bringing the ill-fated 3rd &1 call resulting in the fumble. If I'm correct in my recollection, that no catch hurt us bad.

On a related note: Anyone else frustrated by the fact that on THE LAST RETURN OF THE SEASON Van almost takes it to the house? WTF? I would really like to know the reasoning behind not utilizing him on returns. There is no doubt in my mind that he would've taken more than one to the house this year, possibly turning the tide in a loss or two. Bringing up the sage like question "Why don't (didn't) Travon return kicks?"

PLAyaRaPE can't spin this one. Fumblina is...was and will be a liability.

Didn't lose a single fumble this year. I think he ended up 3d in the conference in punt returns.
Evaluate his kickoff returns.

Yes, the punt allowed to roll to the three resulted in the Van fumble and a quick 7 by EWU. Killer.

With his history, have to think they were afraid of him getting hurt.

You guys are partially correct. I was completely wrong. EWU kicked a FG after the fumble.

I have to think that was the biggest reason, there's no doubt with his speed and being able to change directions on a dime he would be a dangerous returner. I would have liked to see him back there yesterday to see what he could do, but if he would have botched one everybody would be screaming about that too I guess.

PR, I was right there, and he did misjudge the punt and slip when he tried to correct. The ball may have had a funny trajectory, but that does not give him a pass on how he played it.

Wrong, nobody would complain just like the fumble he had because it doesn't happen every game. The first 5 are free but after you hit double digits people start wondering if Mick has dementia

His competitors did not have the opportunity to return punts against San Diego.

You know people would be on here saying "WTF is he doing putting Van back there, he hasn't returned a punt all year, he's losing his mind...and everything else", that's how it works here.

I would have liked to see it though.

Through the Dec. 6 games, Nguyen ranked:

24th out of 55 in FCS punt returns with an average of 9.5.
108th out of 113 in FCS kickoff returns with an average of 16.6, rarely getting back to the 25.
