I said it...I've never seen a punt curve like that, it was the weirdest thing. It was completely uncatchable. I hope someone can get their hands on the coaches endzone film on it.

Griz scored on the drive that Nguyen let the punt roll to the 5. But I agree he seemed scared to field a punt in traffic.

Things are a little fuzzy this morning, but I believe the ensuing drive resulted in the Van fumble. After Haynes went sideways instead of forward on the first play getting 9 yards, then the no call head shot on Saylor deep middle, bringing the ill-fated 3rd &1 call resulting in the fumble. If I'm correct in my recollection, that no catch hurt us bad.

On a related note: Anyone else frustrated by the fact that on THE LAST RETURN OF THE SEASON Van almost takes it to the house? WTF? I would really like to know the reasoning behind not utilizing him on returns. There is no doubt in my mind that he would've taken more than one to the house this year, possibly turning the tide in a loss or two. Bringing up the sage like question "Why don't (didn't) Travon return kicks?"

I have to think that was the biggest reason, there's no doubt with his speed and being able to change directions on a dime he would be a dangerous returner. I would have liked to see him back there yesterday to see what he could do, but if he would have botched one everybody would be screaming about that too I guess.

PR, I was right there, and he did misjudge the punt and slip when he tried to correct. The ball may have had a funny trajectory, but that does not give him a pass on how he played it.

24th out of 55 in FCS punt returns with an average of 9.5.
108th out of 113 in FCS kickoff returns with an average of 16.6, rarely getting back to the 25.
