Then you obviously did not see any games that McKinney played in. If you think SSH played worse than McKinney, you are crazy. If it is even close come opening day, they better let Gustafson play and let him learn during the early part of the season so we have a chance of getting better. Either that, or pray that Simis is ready to go as a true freshman. SSH may not be the answer, but you can bet it is not McKinney either. Given my choice between the 2, I would take SSH though. I would take out the zone read part of the offense. We have enough of an offensive line and talent at running back that we don't need a true dual threat quarterback. I would rather have some threat of completing a pass past the line of scrimmage.
shay's release was so slow and painful to watch...and he has no arm strength. I coulndnt take another game of him being the starter. At least Trent has room to improve and can make things happen with his legs...I agree with the guy who said SSH is the worst qb to ever start for the griz.
Huh?? I can agree on the slow release... but he was a sihtload better than the Misfirin' Hawaii'n. Better go rewatch your North Dakota game.
He has a weak arm...he floats passes, and he has a weak arm! Im sorry i forgot for a qb to be good they arent allowed to be mobile or short..right?

and u might wanna watch every game after the UND game if you think SSH is a shit load better than ANYBODY. You think we would have even sniffed a victory against APP ST with SSH, give me a break
Ya... that cross field 40-yarder was w-e-a-k... and those deep outs down the sideline... also w-e-a-k. Geezus this board is like arguing with two-year olds and their favorite crayons.

If I remember correctly, many people were skeptical of Cole Bergquist after his FR year. Many said he would never be a quality QB. Well he turned out pretty damn good his final season . Who is to 100% know and say Trent McKinney cannot do the same, or even better?

Yep, and the same argument holds for SSH. Anybody who believes that SSH is the worst quarterback the Griz have ever had after part of one season might be having memory issues.

NO argument that the MSU defense was the best the Griz played all season long. Cats were beasts on D! But what exactly does that have to do with SSH missin the wide-open 5 outs all day? Or the screens that were open across the middle? And the o-line gave him great protection all day. I'm not saying TM would have been any better against MSU in the passing game, but he sure would have taken a lot of the wide open runs they were giving the Griz all day. MSU just BEGGED SSH to take off and run!

This. I'm not sure either are the answer, but they should both be improved next year.

My biggest concern is a lack of QB coaching experience on this staff. All of our rostered QBs need a ton of coaching and development. Who is working with these guys and do they know how to develop QBs? If you want production at the QB position, you have to have a guy on your staff that can teach kids how to play the position at the college level.

Hmmm... Good point. Not a cheery thought, but good point.

Well, to be honest, Rosie was definitely that guy last year, and we never really saw anything improve.

Give who we have a chance. I guarantee you a mediocre coach that cares about his kids and his job will always be better than a great QB coach who doesn't give a shit.

We saw good things from both TM and SSH last year. Maybe not a lot of good things, but both have their upsides over the other. Hopefully whoever starts against ASU is the best possible guy, and I trust the coaches to make sure that happens.

We will be lucky to be .500 next year if SSH is the starter.

Same could be said for McKinney. I am not saying SSH is the answer. In my opinion, he is the lesser of 2 evils. I am hopeful that either Gustafson as a redshirt freshman or Simis as a true freshman get the opportunity to truly compete for the job and get an opportunity to play early. That way they get better as the year progresses. I am not expecting JJ back regardless of the outcome of the trial. I was hoping Roderick would come here as I saw him as an immediate starter. Oh well. I hope someone steps up.

I agree with almost everything you just said, except that I think I'd actually take McKinney over SSH. While not a great qb, at least he can run if need be. Watching Shay scramble makes Peyton Manning look like Usain Bolt.

TM has the physical skill set to succeed. From what I have seen so does Gus. SSH only surge was in relief of TM vs UND. Unfortunately, our day to day coaching and game time decision making was below par.
SIMIS looks legit in my book but will probably be reshirted I assume.

Again I hear we are going to a multiple formation spread similar to what you see with 85% of the NFL. If this is true it helps Gus & TM only. Its ideal for GUS. Should simplify things everyone but its a huge benefit for TM. Unfortunately, SSH lacks the arm strength and athleticism needed.

I am expecting improvement across the board. I still believe last years Griz was an underachieving team that should have been 8-3 despite all the bed wetting in 2012. I prefer to stay positive and look forward to growth and a return to the playoffs this fall.

SSH is not even a Frontier caliber QB. He is not accurate, and is totally immobile. If he starts for UM this season, we will be looking at another losing season.
