I think it might be the two above and Greg Plater. All play for the Portland Panthers and are all in Houston for the tourney. Plater has stated that Montana is on the top of his list.
Greg Plater of McKay may be the best scorer in 6A no one has heard about. Granted, he was first team all-league and honorable mention all-state last year, but I had never read about him or seen him play until this week, when he beat Wilson with a buzzer-beater.
Greg Plater is an electric perimeter player
Despite great speed that makes one think he could take it to the basket at will, Plater loves the outside shot. Against Wilson, he was 8-17 from behind the arc, and many of those were near NBA range. He pulled the Royal Scots from a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit, hitting two threes in the closing minute. Then, with 4 seconds remaining and the score tied, he took the inbounds pass coast to coast to end the game in regulation.
Plater can drive and create shots in the key, but why walk when you can fly? Of his 35 points, only three came of free throws and he took only seven two-point attempts.
Despite all the bomb-throwing, I wouldn't call Plater a selfish player. He passes freely, though not always accurately. For someone who can shoot the eyes out of the basket from 30 feet, you'd think he would notice players in the opponents' jerseys cutting in front of the guys he's trying to pass to. I wasn't counting his turnovers, but it would have taken more than one hand. He's a shooting guard; not a point guard.
