Shout Out To Savannah State

Honestly, I hope Griz fans give these players and team a standing O for their perseverance to get to Montana and play. It might be all of the players first visit to Montana---fans should make them want to return!

I agree. Give them a fantastic Montana welcoming. Have them ask to come back. That's the sign of a true experience...wanting to do it again.

Ditto. :thumb:

And wouldn't it be a hoot if an actual Savannah State fan showed up -- aside from the traveling personnel etc. Anyone know if they'll bring a cheer squad? But an actual SS fan will probably need help to get into the stadium after all the free beer he/she would get.

I agree

If they bring any fans, I always take care of visiting fans at my tailgate, they are all welcome.

Help me out guys.. I vaguely remember a team from down in the south that came to Montana to play some football and it was super cold out. They ended up winning the game! Who the heck was it?

Maybe Wofford's 23-22 win over Montana on November 24,2007 in the first round of the playoffs? I looked up temperature for that day, the high was 19 degrees, low 2 degrees. Wofford is in South Carolina.
He's talking about Coastal Carolina.

God damn Stitt got blasted by Coastal Carolina cuz he cant coach at this level...durrr durrr durrr

Mick was coaching. ig I remember correctly we had a bunch of players who were not wearing cold gear. We also had some bad calls that changed our momentum that could have caused us to loose the game. If I remember correctly we had a play reviewed after we had completed 2 plays before for a lot of yardage and they decided to move us back on the play that was reviewed even though it was 2 plays before the last snap.

It is a long way from the Lowlands to Missoula, but there might be a couple of fans. If they have the money, which is doubtful, (most Historically Black schools don't) they would entertain the UM crowd with their cheerleading squad which is well known around here. Doubt if many drink. And, I doubt if any have seen a mountain. One of the great things about Southern Football is the respect shown to the other team. USC, Tennessee and others always play the visiting school's fight song. UM could do that and it might make the pregame more interesting.

Good points, but one is just unkind: Back there, the Appalachians are considered pretty respectable mountains. After all, the highest of them is at almost 6,700 feet (woo hoo!). Of course, a lot of us out here live at an elevation higher than their average (3000 ft, according to Wikipedia). But, it must be said, the Appalachians are damn scenic.

In my opinion, that would be a classy gesture.

Yeah make 'em feel really good right before the Griz rip their guts out. Call it the "Timothy Treadwell" treatment...

Exactly. Standing ovation for their perseverance, then knock them on their asses. Help them up, then knock on their asses again, and again, and again! I hope the trip and game is a memorable experience for these young men. A sounding defeat, but a memorable trip.

GO GRIZ!

FWIW flightaware.com shows SSU flight from Savannah diverted to Kalispell, spent an hour and a half on the ground and will arrive in Missoula around 6:40. Been a tough week for those guys. Working from my phone so I am unable to include the links

It would be really special if both Shannon and Sterling showed up.
