Selection Sunday Discussion

I don't think you ever want to draw the champion from the Big 10, ACC, or Big East, especially when they are playing their best ball at the end of the year. Saying that, Michigan seems like a team that we can match up with athletically. Beiline is a great coach and I don't think he will allow his team to overlook us. Griz will have to play like they did the 2nd half of the Eastern game and hope that Michigan is cold from the permiter. I think the Griz are fully capable of making this a competitive game though.

The matchup is about as good as we could have hoped for. Have to shed whatever "happy to be here" mindset we have, execute, and take control of the game from the start. Why not?

I am so disappointed, the GRIZ going to Wichita is a disappointing surprise. I was really wanting the GRIZ to play in Boise, against Gonzaga. Had that happened, I would be taking time off work and taking in the 1st 2 rounds (win or lose). As for the Michigan match up. I feel we match up with them pretty good. Wagner is the player that really concerns me. Akoh struggles with perimeter oriented players. I hope the GRIZ can get the ball in down low against Wagner, and hope to get him in foul trouble. Is this a game when Nicholas plays a much needed contributing role?

I feel the GRIZ can penetrate their defense. I hope DeCuire tells Moorehead and Falls to be ready to shoot the 3!!! We need the aggressive Bobby Moorehead that finally looked to shoot against EWU. In my opinion, the play of Moorehead is the biggest key to this game. We all know that Rorie, Oguine, Akoh, Krslovic, Falls, and Pridgett will not be shy, and look to score with their opportunities. Moorehead has not shown an offensive willingness until the Conference Championship game. I am hoping the play of Rorie, Oguine, Pridgett, and Falls will be a big surprise to Michigan. Those players have to look to penetrate as often as possible. Athletically and skills wise. the GRIZ matchup well with the power 5 teams. Akoh has to be the bad ass tough guy. I hope DeCuire decides to keep him as close to the paint as possible for defensive rebounding. I'd rather have Krslovic and/or Nicholas be the guys responsible for defending Wagner. Oguine and Pridgett will not back down on the boards either.

If the GRIZ can keep Wagner from going off big, and our guards play up to their potential, I think the GRIZ can give Michigan a game. This game is the biggest opportunity that Oguine and Rorie will have to improve their potential NBA stock, going into their SR seasons. Each of them played terrific in the conference tournament. They absolutely have to let Michigan know, they are there to give Michigan hell from the get go. Tentative play has to be thrown out the door. It is time for this GRIZ team to show rest the nation how special they are, and live up their vast potential. The GRIZ have proven that to GRIZ Nation and the conference, time to do the same nationally. It is hard to find a bigger name school than Michigan to do just that!!!!

For once, athletically the GRIZ have more than just 1 player who can hang with the big boys. That is something past GRIZ teams have not had in the NCAA tournament. I will be surprised if the GRIZ get rolled by Michigan, like they were against the likes of Syracuse and Wisconsin in past NCAA appearances.

Watching SVP on ESPN late tonight and he had on Rece Davis and they both agreed that Michigan was one of the best teams in the tournament.

Montana has to play the whole game the way they played the second half against EWU to even be in this game. But is one game, not a series and miracles do happen. Would love to be the bracket buster for 99%of the brackets out there!

I've seen more than a few prognosticators say Michigan is their final 4 team from the bracket. I think the only way the Griz win is if they play a perfect game and Michigan is cold because of the layoff. If they can keep the momentum to a minimum (say that fast a few times...) they can hang and pull something off in the end. Ultimately, will probably be a Penn State type game...Griz up late and lose by double digits on free throws. Still, a good showing is something the Griz haven't had in a couple trips. Let's go boys...make Griz nation proud!

Man I was hoping they got sent to Dallas so I could drive down the street and watch them at the AAC.

Committee decided to put Texas Tech and SFA in the slot the griz should have been in. But hey the NCAA doesnt make decisions based off money right????

Tourney games almost always come down to whos got the best guard play. And we have 2 really freaking good athletic guards.

Thats why we have a shot in this game.

Put this in another thread, but it works here as well:
Terrible draw for us. This may well be like the Wisconsin game from awhile back. I feel like the guys will fight but...ouch.

MMF, sadly I agree. While I think this team is much better overall than those teams of a couple years ago, at this point I’d be super happy if we just covered (line is 12 right now). Don’t have a good feeling at all about this. Was really hoping to avoid one of the top 12....it’s why a 12 seed would have been nice.

Griz are ranked the 54-56 best team out of 68 in the field in all the publications I've see thus far. Let's hope they get hot and make this fun to watch!

After reading them all, you got it. How many times has it been said by the gurus that guard play is a must. And how many teams have a guard that is a offensive rebound threat ?

Our bench is the key factor.

GO GRIZ

Damn. Looks like a 14.

Bullshit.

Thought 14 was most likely.

Interesting you say that. According to Kenpom, Montana's RPI is higher than each of the four 13 seeds, and higher than 12 seeded SDSU.

According to Haslametric's, Montana has a higher ranking than each of the four 13 seeds, and only a few spots behind 12 seeded SDSU.

Montana is rated considerably higher than any of the other 14 seeds (no less than 24 spots ahead of the next highest ranking according to both websites).

I know there are other factors at play for the selection committee, but I think the Griz are under-seeded. I'm admittedly jaded, but I think they were a pretty clear 13 seed.

I think the Griz are a 12 seed talent that dropped close games at GSU, UW and UI. I hope they believe that too, and go out there with a chip on their shoulder.

Yes, it would have been nice to get a 12 or 13 seed. But the point of the tournament isn't to win one game. The point is to win the tournament. And you have to beat the best teams to do that, whether you draw them in the first round or the last.

Take 'em down, Griz! :thumb:

Not sure either team should be happy with this draw. I think the fuzz would beat any of the other 13 teams pretty easily, and are probably playing at a 10 or 11 level right now (congratulations on the BSC championship). But, Michigan is flat out playing at a Final Four level right now. I don't see much hope in this one unfortunately.

You're right - we should forfeit.
