Secondary

Remember guys for G1 and expectations with the secondary, you must not get beat deep, EVER, however you must also not give up any short passes... EVER. Never mind that if the defense is in a cover 2 or cover 3 they're actually supposed to give up shorter gains...

Additionally you must make all tackles, ALL THE TIME. It doesn't matter that one of our safeties is a true sophomore, one of our starting corners last week is a WR convert, and the other starting corner was starting his first game.

OK lets go to the tape:

our secondary really just had to manage the passing game and was not heavily needed to make a superior effort

USD was not much of a dynamic passing team at all, it's pretty tough to gauge the secondary play based on yesterdays game.

t's not as if that play didn't happen but it came against a backup

App will be the true test against this group, I saw they threw for 300 against ECU

What of those statement are maroon colored and not factual? And, no, I don't expect you to give me a truthful answer.

I do think that the Griz secondary will be put to the test on Saturday. The ASU WR vs. UM Secondary is one of the biggest keys to this game and we should learn a lot about both teams. I don't know very much at all about South Dakota and cannot speak to their offense but App is deep at WR. Young, but talented and deep.

Tony Washington and Andrew Peacock are juniors who have been there before but otherwise, you'll see almost exclusively freshmen. Malachi Jones had a nice debut against ECU and Simms McElfresh (along with having the best name on the team) is another freshman who should play a significant role. Freshman Tacoi Sumler is an Oregon transfer who is still getting acclimated to the offense but he has game breaking speed and we are counting on him to be another weapon in the passing game. When Sean Price returns, this will be a very dangerous group but I still believe we have the talent there to put some pressure on the Griz defensive backfield.

This is no knock on the Montana secondary but I honestly do not think we will struggle to gain yards through the air. The bigger question for me will be whether we can get a ground game going. If we do, then I think we come out on top. If not and Jamal has to throw the ball 35-40 times, we are in trouble.

Jamal. I am sure he must be a white guy.

Saying Hermanson belongs at Western? Really... ok... SMH.

Our front 7 dominated yesterday's game so much yesterday our secondary really just had to manage the passing game and was not heavily needed to make a superior effort.

As for Tully he did have a few key stops as I recall one run early where he had a good wrap up on their running back and if Bo didn't hit him... that guy might've been gone.

USD was not much of a dynamic passing team at all, it's pretty tough to gauge the secondary play based on yesterdays game. I mean... take away the 80 yard bomb that burned Dennard and USD only passes for 92 yards in the whole game and is held to 153 total yards of offense. It's not as if that play didn't happen but it came against a backup where we'll now see Nate Harris in that situation more often than not.

App will be the true test against this group, I saw they threw for 300 against ECU.

Who's your team? I mean, really?
Same team as yours. I just am much more objective about the team. I am one of the FEW on this site who realistically analyzes the team, and its players. It's O.K. to be a pedestrian fan, which includes you and about 90% of the posters on here.

Just follow Re/Min. He will show you the light.

You are such a ditch. Nice try. You should become a Democratic strategist. You are president of the sugar-coaters club, and your lemmings love you for it. Hold court. Disparage reality. It's O.K.

G1, I have to disagree. BW has consistent analysis that points out both the good and the bad. And I have heard him admit on numerous occasions he is wrong about some minor points. You really should try that sometime. For some reason you appear to have it out for BW and are waiting for the opportunity to pounce on any form of a misstatement. Not really necessary. So get over yourself and your following of one.

If by "more realistic" you mean shitting on every player at every opportunity then yes, you are "more realistic."

Have you EVER had a positive comment to say about a player? Is your glass ALWAYS half empty?

Hell yes I say plenty of positives about players. But I don't really need to do that much, because Brint and the many pedestrian fans who practice routine hyperbole take care of all the sugar for me. The real football fans of this board know that I give many positives when warranted.

My job on this board is to be the anti-sugar. If your dense Arizona sun-baked mind has not figured this out yet, so be it.

Mr. Lemming, I could care less about having a following. Re-Min has an agenda, which is obvious to most. He is in the same class as Playa Rape in my book. Nothing personal against Brint. I just can't stand jock-sniffers. So, I expose him for what he is. If you choose to idolize him, that's your privilege. The players and coaches do not like them either. Several have expressed that to me.

Oh, you have a "job" to do on this board?

Please point out your last 5 positive posts about players. I searched but couldn't find any.

I KNEW you weren't going to answer the question! Called it.

What of those statement are maroon colored and not factual? And, no, I don't expect you to give me a truthful answer.

They were accurate statements yet you just spin off and attack me again. That's all this board has become - people try to engage in discussion and then you just crap all over it. Egriz should rename itself to Growler1's toilet b/c just about any thread where you're posting winds up with you taking a big crap on it. It has no worth/use to any discussion about football.

So now you divulge what you're all about; good thing you finally let that slip, otherwise we'd still be in suspense or something. I mean, what else would being objective and delivering realistic analyses accomplish, anyways? Thanks for telling everyone that whatever you have been putting forth is both objective AND realistic. Glad that finallly got cleared up. Otherwise, I would never have known.

What I really meant to say, of course, was to express my deep appreciation for your ("Growler1") immense football savy; I mean, how was I supposed to know that the sum total of all your football game strategy, personnel debasements, etc., were from the main source of sources < ...I mean really; I should be ashamed of myself for not knowing sooner.

Now that's the way "the game" should be played.
