Then teams use the TV breaks to hoard their own TOs for the end game. Which means, between "strategy" timeouts and fouls shots, the last two minutes can stretch out to 10. Personally, I think teams should be limited to one TO each in the last 2 minutes of the game. That would likely lead to a flurry of "use it or lose it" timeouts just before the "deadline, but then they would have to mostly just play. Stoppage for foul shots should allow enough time for the coach to give quick instructions to his floor leader (if he's coached the team up well in practice).AZDoc said:
MO is the man again. 20 and 14...something like that. Griz only played 7 players until the last 25 seconds when Fab was subbed for. Didn’t take great care of the ball against a team last in the league in forcing TOs. About 274 points on second chances made up for the lack of assists too. Overall they did what was needed to win. Wow..I'd just like to say this season has been a true joy to watch and hear. For all the players , thank -you for your dedication and hard work! Thank-you coach Trav and all asst. coaches,,thank-you Riley and even thank-you to Pluto tv for those of us who can't get back as much as we'd like to. After the football season it has been extra special to see the effort towards greatness. Go get it completed next week and go dancin' :clap:

I wish I knew then what I know now, of course. Like the fact that he was the basketball coach and not the football coach. Nobody had asked if I actually knew anything about varsity sports. Thanks to Jud, I came back with an article of sorts, but my editor, Bruce Sayler, asked, politely, if I had ever done this before.
In any case, over time, I developed a real appreciation for good sports writing, and how easy it was, on the one hand, to string together game stats and quotes, and how difficult it was, on the other hand, to do really good writing, and how much opportunity there was in "sports," for those that had the talent and took the time.
"Skyline Sports" is doing a superb job of covering the Griz this year; and that article was really high quality stuff. Half of the authentic pleasure of collegiate sports is reading good articles about it, by dedicated, articulate writers.
That was a great piece.
