So a poster with an axe to grind; too many Montana kids on the roster, starts a thread. He knows the topic is going to generate opposition. He doesn't have any evidence to back up his position, it's just his belief based on nothing. When his provocation is challenged, he requests that the people who disagree with him should provide numerical evidence to support their disagreement.

Welcome to the ass-backwardness of today's idea of discourse.

We just say “Bingo”.

The only axe I have to grind is I want our football team to win, especially when we play state college. Do I think all of the Montana kids will play hard? Of course. Do I think 50% of our roster loaded with Montana kids is in the best interest of the team with the goal of a NC? No I don’t. I realize that many of you dream of watching 50 Montana kids run out of the tunnel and if that’s the goal, so be it.

MSU has 47 Montana kids on their roster for 2023, not counting any walk-ons that join before fall camp starts.

This is the exact same number we have listed on our roster right now.

Yes, I realize that. Take a look at Idaho, South Dakota State. I believe 21 for each team.

So having that many Montana kids isn't a death sentence for MSU? Why not?

They are the FCS program closest in circumstances to us, and it's not even close.

Cal Poly has 109 California kids on their roster and they stink. EWU has 58 kids from Washington and won 3 games last year.

Spanky has nothing to base his opinion on other than he counted the kids on the roster. Zero beyond that. Talk about lazy.

How many relatives do you have on the roster?

So are your relatives telling you that all the Montana kids are terrible and not FCS caliber or are your relatives terrible and not FCS caliber?

I have no problem with that; it's that you made a statement about how much money Montana kids get for scholarships without having any idea how much money is paid to Montana kids. You asked other people to provide the support or opposition to your statement. That's lazy AF. Find the numbers then form the opinion. That's 101.

You didn’t answer the question.

I know how it works at Weber and I assume it's the same at UM. Many of our local kids get partial grants because they still live at home and don't need as much financial support. Splitting scholarships is still available to us. We try to get as many of the high quality local players as we can. Of course the competition for those guys is intense. Having 2 P5 programs and another G5 within 2 hours drive makes it dificult.

To me it's less about where they come from and more about the quality of player they are. Local players cost less, but that isn't why they are great to have in your program. I feel that all teams want to recruit their own backyard first and move out from there. Who ever you get, they still have to play the game. :thumb:

Idaho State has 20 kids from Idaho on their roster, so they must be better than Idaho, right?
