Scholarship Money-Montana Kids

The vast majority of professional athletes played multiple sports growing up...that's just a fact.

There are some sports where specialization matters - tennis is a prime example.

Personally, any kid who plays football in the fall - wrestles in the winter - and does track in the spring to be around cute girls...should be offered a full ride. :)

Sounds good to me.

Absolutely agree. I’ve just been trying to give some perspective on how things are done in some other places and how we could maybe tap into those things to find more immediate results.

bg: not disagreeing with you, I think. But, brevity is clarity. I, personally have never read 'War and Peace.' Never will. I am one who thrived on 'Cliff's Notes.' Please, shorten up your notes. Please.

NOW you're making sense! :thumb:

Thank God Mark Mariani didn't specialize in tennis.

You’re exactly right, and that’s the danger in making the points I’ve been trying to make. Everyone has their favorite local multi-sport kid who panned out and became a Griz FB star (I do), and I would never intend to speak ill about any of those players who did, or are doing, so. So, if anyone has taken my posts that way, please know that’s not what I believe. Exceptions definitely exist, but banking on exceptions isn’t always a great strategy in my opinion.

When it comes to pure probabilities of whether a kid will pan out in a skill position, I believe we’re more likely to find more from out of state who excel than those who might be from MT. Based solely upon memory, I think it’s true in recent years. I believe this will be especially true at QB going forward, and I think the coaching staff has recognized that to an extent.

Credit where due: 1122 made a great point earlier about in-state kids being more likely to stick around than those who are from more far-flung areas. I think that’s likely true, and a great counter to the above.

Wonder what his full potential in tennnis might have had he specialized?

I'm also glad he didn't do so!

Given Mark’s God Given athletic talent, with good coaching and competition, he may have been a nationality ranked player.

Please put me on ignore, as I have done with you. Or go ahead and post a youtube video. That seems to say it all.

So a poster with an axe to grind; too many Montana kids on the roster, starts a thread. He knows the topic is going to generate opposition. He doesn't have any evidence to back up his position, it's just his belief based on nothing. When his provocation is challenged, he requests that the people who disagree with him should provide numerical evidence to support their disagreement.

Welcome to the ass-backwardness of today's idea of discourse.

What do we have here? Some ding bat breathing smoke air in Canada attempting to stir the pot.

This whole original proposal has some holes in it. Back when we were still riding dinosaurs to class, I went to school with several kids that came to UM, in part, because it was cheaper to pay out of state tuition here than pay in state tuition where they were from.

I know, I know, that was a long time ago, things have changed since then, it happened once upon a time but can't happen again just because, school has changed drastically since then, Yada, Yada, Yada,......

I like dingbat, it's an under-used insult.

Tell your friend this is 2023.

That's the answer I expected..."It worked before, but it can't happen today cause it's different now."

I’m not disagreeing with you in whole, but I suppose a counter to that is the, “We’ve always done it this way.” mentality has been the death of many entities.
