Schedules

Since you like to chirp in all things regarding the bobcats, you'll have to agree that their non-conference schedule this year is alot more competitive than the griz non conference, right?
I will thoroughly enjoy watching the Ducks absolutely destroy mspew this upcoming season.

Yeah, SDSU is going to have a huge downfall. I'll be surprised if theyre in the top 15 by the end of the year.

That would assert that there is 14 teams worth of being above them and there just isn’t that much talented depth in the FCS. By all accounts, last year was a disappointment year by Montana football standards and we finished right around # 10 as a …… 5 loss team!

However, given the new world of NIL and how much USD, SDSU, MSU have lost due to transfer/graduation/upheaval and even NDSU losing a couple big time players, there might be more parity this year, and a few surprises. I still expect it to be top heavy with a handful of teams. The FCS keeps waiting for UIW to have success when bringing in so much talent and Tarleton state is rapidly seeing growth and improvement following their investments. However, the CAA is a shell of its former self and the UAC was close to putting 5 teams in the playoff last year. Somebody needs to step up and be the third best conference at the subdivision, but we haven’t really seen anyone do it yet.

To add to the original topic, didn’t the cants have the most ridiculously unchallenging OOC schedule last year and a great line-up throughout the conference schedule which paid off for them by being unchallenged and very healthy heading into the playoffs?

The narrative on here all of last year was that the cats had an easy schedule that allowed them to skate to the championship. It turns out that was just BS like most everything else on here. According to every computer or objects ranking they had a harder schedule than the griz.

How many years in a row are you guys going to play mercyfirst and Stetsons at home?

That's an awfully bold prediction
Jimmy Rogers was the engine that drove the Jacks to the Championships and with his departure to WSU along with 15 SDSU coaches and numerous players, SDSU will have a hard time filling in the holes. It's possible they are on the same level as years past but this is not a NDSU Matt Entz leaving for USC type of transition. This is a wholesale change in the program.

During the season, the Cats had weaker schedule until the end of regular season in the SOS ratings virtually every weak. In Sagarin, I believe, Cats were weaker the whole time. In Massey, I believe, Cats may have jumped for a week or two. Cats had one of weaker schedules in conference. Griz didn’t have an especially strong schedule either. Your link is after the playoffs.

In Nov. 17 Sagarin, the Cats have second weakest SOS of top 12 FCs teams. Ahead of Incarnate Word.

So where did I compare your schedule to ours? Here is what I stated.

"didn’t the cants have the most ridiculously unchallenging OOC schedule last year and a great line-up throughout the conference schedule which paid off for them by being unchallenged and very healthy heading into the playoffs?"

Now to back that up regarding your OOC schedule you guys played an FBS school in New Mexico (5-7) on the road and were a 13.5-point favorite in a week 0 game (which is unprecedented) who was in its first game with a new coach, then followed it up with Utah Tech (1-11) on the road, then Maine (5-7) at home, a bye, and then Stetson (2-9) at home. Your fan base was quick to say that you had your backups in for the entire second half of these games. Looks like heading into conference play you guys were pretty well rested and healthy. And Sagarin had that SOS around the 200 range after your first 4 games

Then heading into conference, you started off with ISU (5-7) and UNC (1-11), You didn't play a team with a winning --record until your 7th game of the season in 2024 (Idaho @ 10-4 on their 3rd string QB who got hurt and had to be replaced with an already injured second string QB). Then it was onto the albatross of PSU (3-8) followed by your 2nd bye. After that you got EWU (4-8) followed by Sac State (3-9).

So, let's recap that, in your first 10 games of 2024 you guys played 1 team with a winning record and had 2 byes???? But, sure every computer and objective ranking before playing UC Davis and then the Griz had you guys ranked with a grueling schedule? Like I said this schedule paid off for you guys. You went on a run as you should have and beat some good teams but came up just a trash can short in the title game. Sometimes it pays to not have a brutal schedule. Idaho was an example of that last year. Many of the years the griz have made good runs in the past have included DII teams and weak OOC schedules. Iron may sharpen Iron, but sometimes it pays to not have to take body blows before you get into the rounds that really matter.

You're absolutely right - It's likely that the Jacks won't be nearly as good as they have been the last few years. I'm just not sure that they won't even be in the top 15. I think that's kind of a stretch considering the current level of competition in the FCS as a whole.

Completely agree. For years I was in the anti move up crowd. I just cannot do it now. FCS has gotten blasted with NIL. What happened to SDSU is unfortunate. Cannot blame their coach. It’s just one more good team that will now be mediocre. Cats will struggle this coming year. They lost more than their fan base wants to admit. They will probably fair ok since all of FCS is going to be much weaker. Many of the Griz and Cat games will just be blowouts. Time to figure out how to move up. The Griz facilities and fan base are awesome. Hate to see the program stay in a division that has been and continues to degrade.

We’ve gone over this 100 times. Their schedule was harder because we were on it. Ours was easier cus they were on it.

Blah blah blah blah, the cats schedule last year was objectively harder than the griz, despite your blather.

The simplicity of the feline brain never ceases to amaze. “If I yell loud enough and keep repeating the same thing it makes it real.”
Haha the cognitive dissonance here is super cute. You keep telling yourself one thing and repeating it over and over. I provided an objective computer ranking that debunked your BS and you accuse me of trying repeat things until it becomes truth.
Oh by the way PR constantly threw up the sagarin rankings all year to prove how weak the cats schedule was. Now that it ultimately said the cats schedule was harder he STFU about it. Remember that?
