It sounds like Kem already has a computer so going out and buying a smart tv or a doggle like Firestick, etc. is redundant.
If he prefers his larger monitor (his "regular tv") because of its size and position to the couch, why not just hook up the computer to the larger monitor? As long as both the computer and monitor have HDMI ports, should be pretty straight forward to plug in a HDMI cable.
(When I was in college 15-20 years ago, I had a computer, PS3, Wii, and cable all hooked up to the "big screen" in our living room so the computer/tv would have to be ancient not to have a HDMI port(s). I did have to fiddle with the resolution on my computer ahead of time on a separate desktop monitor so that it would display properly once connected to the "big screen" but it was pretty cool to have the ability to switch from PC gaming to watching TV to surfing the web to watching a blu-ray to typing a paper to playing party/group games on Wii to playing YouTube music videos during house parties, etc. all by just pressing the HDMI switch hub or the input button on the tv remote.)
