San Francisco Dons HC fired

I wonder if whoever their new coach is will still own us. Seriously, they have our number and we play absolutely terrible against them. I doubt Travis would leave for that job.

Not this year! Didn't we beat em by 30?

And Zoo my first thought too was that he'd never take that job. But he's a known commodity there, has established contacts, etc.

Thanks for the reminder. I completely forgot we beat them finally. :thumb:
As for the job. It really does not make much sense for Travis to have brought in the talent he has to just leave them behind for a little more money. Also factor in, he was very close to landing the Cal job. Travis knows damn well he belongs coaching at in the MWC or better. I don't see him leaving for anything less than that level.
 
That is without a doubt a step down from his current job. Travis cares about this job. I think he's going to be around longer than many of you think he will be

Well, that is certainly GREAT news, Kyle.
 
I have no insider information but I feel the next move for Travis will be to U of W in 3 to 4 years. He needs to win a game in the big dance for that to happen.

How is USF a "step down"? It is obviously a better paid job (since no one pays less that UM). If one likes the life-style, the Bay Area is a pretty nice place to live. Travis already recruits the area hard. USF is in a better basketball conference, and basketball is THE focus of the conference, as hardly any schools even bother with football. Road trips are to San Diego, LA, Portland, Spokane and Salt Lake vs Grand Forks, Pocatello, Ogden, Cedar City and Flagstaff. Maybe you are too young to know, Kyle, but USF won back to back NCAA crowns with Bill Russell and KC Jones (OK, that was a loooong time ago!).

I'm not convinced that Travis won't consider this opening. Hope I'm wrong, tho. Hope he stays at UM forever.

I'm a UW football and basketball season ticket holder and tyee member. Romar has a pretty long leash but the big bball tyee boosters, not me, definitely have Travis on the short list. Conventional wisdom was Cameron Dollar, from Seattle U, but he's had a pretty average campaign there. I too think UW will be his next job. Just depends on if Travis will be patient enough. If holds off, the Pac 12 will be his next gig.

I would say UM has a better program, better support, and better facilities than USF (have you ever seen USF's gmy?), probably by a large margin...

As far as pay, maybe its higher, but the Bay Area is one of the most expensive places to live in the US, so I doubt he makes more in the long run, probably much less...
 
My acquaintances in the Athletic Department told me months ago that they are resigned to Travis not being at UM long-term. And that the next coach is already on staff (and that would surprise no one).

That would be an awesome career opportunity for him, unfortunately i can not stand Seattle fans in relation to any sport.
 
The Dons hired Kyle Smith of Columbia today. HC at Columbia for 6 years, beat Irvine to win the college insider tourney this year. Assistant experience in the WCC at St. Mary's and San Diego.
 
Barring something very unexpected, looks like we hold onto DeCuire for another year. I hope he stays several years, like Tinkle did. We've been fortunate with the coaches we have hired, for the most part.
 
I agree that Travis will likely be here for a few years. He knows he has the ability to turn UM into a strong mid-major, and that if he does, his stock will rise higher.
