Busy week at work for me so will post this here instead of waiting for Brint's Tuesday Sacred Heart breakdown.
Sacred Heart is no slouch...5-2 but an independent this year, trading from NEAC to CAA
Saw parts of their game against Howard...Sacred Heart on D had a tough time against the run (at least against Howard they did)
Don't overlook this team
I don't think Sacred Heart has ever played at Wash-Griz staduium
I see lots of false starts (they got one on their home field against Howard) for Sacred Heart

Man, I know what you're saying with, don't overlook an opponent, but this is gonna be a game for our depth to get some playing time starting in the 3rd quarter. They played Lehigh kind of tough, losing by 18, but it's probably gonna be a blow out. The spread is gonna be around 27.5 points, if not higher. Bobby won't let the team have a let down for this game. Could be a 63-0 score.

Well, in all fairness, the Griz false started at home too this week.

I’ve been watching some of their game against Norfolk state this morning. They look like a team that we’ll be frustrated with for a half and then pull away from, as per usual.

I watched the SHU (they call themselves shoe or the Pios) vs Howard game this morning. They were touting that Howard's defense is top ten in scoring and points allowed, they really didn't impress me. The running back, Mitchell Summers #20 RB 109 carries for 638 yards and 5 TD’s, 7 receptions for 112 yards, against Howard 18 carries for 243 yards and 2 TD’s. He’s quick and can be dangerous when he gets to the outside and his first score came from the first play from scrimmage in the second half after a false start backed the ball up to the SHU 20. He's not that much of an issue, if he played in the Big Sky, I really don't think he would have half the yardage he has, the only team of significance they have played is Lehigh when they lost 28-10.
Jack Snyder #14 QB, 92/132 for 1,042 yards, 5 TD, 2 Int, 75 carries for 345 yards and 4 TD, against Howard 11/18 for 147 yards, 1 TD, 13 caries for 68 yards. Had designed run of 11and 44 yards so he can move a little as much of the day he was scrambling and taking off with receivers covered. Doesn’t have much for arm strength, two of his 11 completions were jet sweeps and he had a 20 yard completion plus his TD pass went about 20 yards, 5 yards into the end zone.
I question their ability to run their offense in the red zone. They accepted an off sides penalty on a 4 and 1 FG attempt from 22 yards and gained 1 yard on three rushing attempts, none by Summers, and one by the backup QB for no gain, who also had a no gain on the third and one that set up the attempt that resulted in the off sides. On Howard’s next possession, they had a 4 and out where they went for a 4th and 1 on their own 34 for no gain. Took 6 plays to move the ball 25 yards to the Howard 9, then gained just 1 yard on three plays before kicking a 25 yard FG.
#17 Payton Rhoades WR was the leading receiver with 4 catches totaling 71 yards and the TD a long of 25 (13 YAC)

Matt Kling #3 K, 3 FG’s of 49, 19 and 25 yards.

Defensive Starters, they play a 3-3-5

#0 Kenny Selby, DB, 5-11, 193, 22 tackles, 6 PBU
#4 Daimon Jacobs, DB, 6, 184, 54 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 Int
#14 Maximus Mongelli, DB, 6, 195, 38 tackles, 1 Int 2 PBU
#17 Miles Ellis, DB, 5-10, 188, 5 tackles
#47 Ryan Palmieri, DB, 5-10, 190, 25 tackles, 1 PBR
#2 Peter Shanne, DL, 6-3, 255, 20 tackles, 3.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks, sacked Howard QB for a safety
#90 Jared Hirschfeld, DL, 6-4, 280, 16 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks
#93 Glory Stephen-Wangboje, DL, 6-2, 293, 19 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 PBU
#8 Luke Hackette, LB, 5-10, 196, 7 tackles, 1 TFL, 0.5 sacks
#11 Myles Hamilton, LB, 6-2, 225, 15 tackles, 1 TFL, 0.5 sacks
#43 Nick Verbitsky, LB, 6, 225, 28 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack

#56 Gianni Principato, RT, 6-4, 285

Should beat sacred heart by 30.

Exactly what this game is

If we struggle with Sacred Heart, that would be a terrible sign.

This should be an Indiana State kind of game.
While I agree that it should be a blowout, sacred heart is better than Indiana state. I watched their game against Norfolk state this morning. We are better accross the board, but their offensive line looks big and physical, and they’ve got a nice RB. Their QB isn’t exactly a run first guy but he’s dual threat and can run if he needs to. They remind me of that butler team that frustrated the 2023 Griz. The guys won’t be able to just show up and sleepwalk through the game, but if they come and play like they did in the 4th quarter of the CP game right from the start it should be a big halftime lead. Play like we did in the first half of CP and the score will probably have us stressed out and frustrated yet again. Like I said, we are by far the more talented team, and should win handily. But for one reason or another we seem like a team that plays down to its competition, at least until the second half.

Portland St would look awesome on tape if they were playing Norfolk...just sayin'

Well, that Griz team struggled with Butler because they didn't have their shit figured out. If we had played Butler in week 8 with Clif running the offense, I have no doubt we would have demolished them. By that same token, if we are to believe ourselves a legit natty contender this season, we should have no issue with Sacred Heart. Playing a close game against them at this point in the season would be very worrying for those of us that think we can make a run this year.

They aren't the greatest, but certainly not the worst team out there.

Better than Mercyhurst, definitely. Better than San Diego, probably. Better than North Dakota, not even close.
For reasons that escape me, we've seen SH play tough opponents several times (their opponents were a draw, I guess). The Griz cannot under-rate them early. They play hard, with maximum energy and effort. In many case we saw, they were simply over-matched physically and athletically. They tried to make up for that with effort and enthusiasm. This year, with a relatively soft schedule, that has worked well for them (5-2 record). FWIW (zero), my game play would be to forget trick plays, etc. and simply ram it down their throats.

That is probably a good formula. Howard burned them on a long run out of wildcat, which they were shifting into with their running back, but SHU shut that down in the second half. They got off to a start almost like ours against Cal Poly. 14-3 at half.
They claim Summers, their RB, is one of the best in the nation and they said they are in the running for a playoff bid, especially if they can beat Montana and/or Villanova. It was 60 degrees and raining much of the first half and they were saying that it was cold, so if game time temp is 43 as for3cast, 26k will help deepen that for a team who played before 8k in Norfolk and slipped by Mike Vick's squad by 3.
