Sac St and Utah Tech in 2026

So in 2026 is Sac St considered OOC and Utah Tech considered in confernece?
Glad the Grizz did not schedule Sac St past 2026

Pretty sure the whole conference schedule will be getting redone for 2026 and beyond so we will likely have an open date to fill. Unless they increase the conference games now that we have a yearly 12 game schedule in FCS.

Just ignore the 26 schedule that’s posted right now. It’s gonna get re-made. What’ll be interesting is if the Big Sky will let us keep Utah Tech on our non-conference schedule or if we’re gonna have to cancel that.

I can’t imagine they could make us cancel the contract but I’m sure it would be awkward playing a team twice, the 2nd time counting as a con game. Im guessing they’d give us both the option to reschedule if we can, which I’m thinking both schools would want to. If one can’t? That’s where it might get intresting.

I think in this case, the contract would be voided, and there is probably a clause in that or an agreement with the teams joining that the games they have schedule are subject to being replaced.
I was going to ask if anyone had an idea with when the Big Sky would set the schedule with Sac out and the two Utah teams in.
The Sac State game is set by the Big Sky though, so that goes away. The conference sets the dates up for games first though I know, and they release dates on when teams can set up their OOC games so they can do them in advance. So, we can keep the Oregon State game, and we all know the Griz-cat match won't move, but the rest of the schedule will shuffle any way when the independent is removed and the two new ones are added because it will also be a 9 game conference schedule.
No word yet that I have seen on when the NCAA decides for sure if they will approve the new 12 game schedule either.

They already decided to move it to 12. That was approved a couple months ago and that’s why the Big Sky decided to move to a 9 game schedule. So that’s happening for sure.

I suspect what will happen is the Big Sky will let us keep Utah Tech on our non-conference schedule and won’t schedule us against each other in conference play. That way we won’t have to scramble to find another home game to replace them with. This same thing happened to us when Cal Poly joined the Big Sky. That makes the most sense for the time being.

The other thing that’s gonna be interesting is now the season will start on August 29 instead of September 5 next year. Teams were originally planning for non-conference to be 9/5-9/19 and now it’s supposed to be 8/29-9/12. But because nobody has non-conference games scheduled for 8/29 yet and multiple teams have games scheduled on 9/19 (including UM @ OSU) I could see a scenario where the Big Sky schedules a conference game week one on 8/29. Especially since it’s still week zero for FBS teams and a lack of options for FCS teams. Interested to see.

This is exciting news for me when trying to plan a summer trip home AND catch a Griz game.
The 12-game schedule is still just a proposal, and no one even has an announced game if it gets voted down and Aug 29 is week 0. I don't see why it won't be approved, but it isn't yet official.

We should get a home and home with one of the ivy league schools for OOC since they are now in the playoffs
I think it should almost be a yearly thing.
I would be all for this, but here's why that is a tough thing.
Even with a 12-game schedule approved, the Ivy League by laws don't allow them to add more games, they are only gonna play 10. The 12 games isn't a mandate; teams may play 12 if they chose.
This year, we took our open date and moved it to September 30 to accommodate adding Independent, Sacred Heart, on October 18, but normally, that would be our open date because we usually play the OOC games and then nothing but conference opponents until the playoffs.
The Ivy League doesn't start their season until what is week 4 (this year) ever. Again, this is in their by-laws. That means, if we had an Ivy League team scheduled this year, we could only fit them on the schedule September 20.
I doubt that any of them would want to play us with three games under our belt on their first week of play. That, and for the most part, they tend to play a lot of the NEC, CAA and Patriot League teams as "traditional rivals" although I know Princeton had a home and home with San Diego a few years back. The one game I know was Princeton's first game of the year, I think in 2017.

FCS has adopted 12 games. Will begin 2026 season.
My apologies! The story I had from June 25 announced the accepted proposal. Not sue how my dyslectic self decided it was still hanging out there for a vote.
Still, no one has scheduled any games for the first week of 2026. I hope it's not a bunch of lower division games in there. We will still have to add two more after the reshuffle.

From what I am hearing, with the new 12 game schedule, the BSC is seriously considering a 9 game conference schedule. I am not sure how that will work in 26.

I would like to see with this, 3 common games annually. That way we could trade out Portland State for Idaho and Eastern on our schedule every year.

One other thought from there, kind of how the schedule is done now...
For us, it would break down into 3 groups of 3 where you play 2 of the 3 teams in a given year that rotate around.
So if we had the cats, UI and Eastern every year
we would have 2 of 3 with
PSU, Davis and Poly
Weber, SUU and UTU
ISU, NAU and UNC
or something like it, which makes the 3 rival games make sense.

Sounds like too much common sense for the BSC... and who really thinks they'll let us trade out for what makes sense?
I can at least dream about it until they roll out the latest disaster. 🌤️ At the end of the day, it's kind of like asking why the league headquarters are in Utah. My vision is that this is why every time we have a game against Weber, we seem to get an officiating crew that work a high school game in Ogden the night before. Admittedly, I'm still bitter over a 55-48 OT loss at home last October.
