I swear to God I am stuck in a bad nightmare. Hey - good news got a great quarterback who is transferring/dropping down. Really - where is he from? He is from Oregon, Notre Dame, Stanford, Minnesota, Nevada Reno. Hey - good news got a great quarterback coming out of high school that just signed. Really - where is he from? Kalispell, Hawaii, Oregon, Billings. Pass the french toast. Enough already. I will get excited when we can start winning games by passing the ball with a mobile QB. Have not seen it in 2012. Had it last year and he is headed to court in 2 months. Enough talk about QB's. Defense anyone?

This kid is a Swogger/Roper all over again. He came out of an area where I believe the Hancock brothers and a former Griz lineman came from, other than that I'm not sure what kind of value he brings to the Griz roster. Move SS-H to TE let the others fight it out (Brady/Trent/Adam/Simis kid (assuming he signs) we will be alright @ QB with those guys in the long term.

Gustafson could be a 4 year starter for us. I've heard that he improved a lot this year and is the most talented on our roster right now. Regardless, we will be better at the QB position next year.

I think it all depends on what offense the Griz run and if JJ gets aquitted and returns. If JJ returns I'm sure the job is his. I have yet to see Gustafson play but is he quick and athletic enough to run zone read? I think the biggest issue is last season the Griz seemed to be a team without an identity on offense, and now with 2 new Co-coordinators who knows what to expect? This dual coordinator thing without a quality QB really makes me nervous about next year. Dual offensive coordinators seems like a train wreck waiting to happen to me, unless they agree with each other 90% of the time, which I highly doubt they will.

You can run a spread offense with Gustafson without the zone read. You can still have a strongHammer said:

Gustafson is and should be a good quarterback at the U. A couple of friends who coach in Montana, said the UofM was lucky to get him. Not that he would have gone anywhere else but rather that schools didn't see his total ability in high school. He was raw and unrefined. To use a baseball phrase, the kid has a lower floor but higher ceiling than a lot of kids.
The offense is more than capable of handling Shortell or Gustafson at QB next year.
I heard them talking about this kid transferring on Fargo sports radio a week ago or so, but they did not know where he was going, what they had heard is that he wants to stay FBS, but nothing was concrete. I watched this kid play against NDSU and he throws a nice ball and is physically huge for a QB. He also moves around ok for bieng as big as he is, but I would say he would fit better in a pro style/west coast type of offense, meaninng I think he is more of a pocket passer. I think he would be a good get for you guys, but you may have to modify your offense a little to play to his strengths, which from watching him in a couple of games I would say is his ability to throw the ball, he is big and strong and can make all the throws, just not super mobile.
