Root Sports

the Potenial for growth in Market shares are much larger in Spokane, Portland, Sacramento, Denver than anything that all of the divided state of Montana has to offer? Why would a 5-6, has been football team with thuggish political problems look like a good bet to a sports channel? :? :o

The key word in that paragraph is potential.

I think they got a huge backlash last year about only having two or three games not featuring a Montana team.

If we win like we should, we'll get those games back next year.

Gotta earn our spot.

All about eyeballs in front of screen....bet um has at minimum 4 games and would not be surprised to see more

Well sure. But how many teams has the Big Sky accepted based on "potential" market share? Northridge, Sac and PSU were all about market share. EWU was supposed to market the Big Sky to the Spokane market, but still hasn't more than 20 years later. If the fans aren't going attend the games -- for practically free in most cases-- why on earth would they watch along on TV?

Root Sports is a business run for profit, not a non profit league or a school administration trying not to run on "state" money. Eyes on sets is the key. With a new 14 team conferance. Why would any team followed by a fairly small suburban viewership expect more than one game, when many of the teams in the conference come from huge urban areas with millions of potential viewers?

It's really only about Money and advertising dollars. Step back and look at the big picture.
It's what any smart guy that's ever made a buck would advise. ;)
Look at Roots advertisers, none of which are Montana businesses

Root's BSC football package isn't about viewership. They could probably get more viewers -- particularly in the metro areas of Portland and Seattle -- by showing soccer.

Their BSC football contract is all about ensuring that small cable companies like Bresnan, Optimum, Cable One, Cox Communications, and so on retain Root as one of their offerings. Root makes zero money on BSC games. But they felt they needed to carry those games so that small cable companies in Montana, Idaho, and Oregon wouldn't cut Root to save a few bucks. The key for Root is the number of households they're in. That allows them to charge advertisers much more on their actual money-making telecasts (think Mariners, Sounders, Timbers).

Some scuttlebutt that root is buying some MWC and Idaho football games this year as well.

I would think the root sport MWC buys would be more root rocky mountain channel and not the NW channel though

Yep, same reason.

yep but may explain some delay as they now have more content available to them in the rockies and mid cali markets then they had last year.

What new 14 team conference?

Only Two away Griz games are scheduled! That is crap. The home games I will see in person. I guess I have to do more traveling this year. Diesel prices are a killer. Maybe local TV will pick-up more af the away games. Who knows?

Does anyone know if MTN/KPAX will pick up the other games??

More than likely someone will pick up the remaining games.
I hope so!! I LOVE going to the games and I travel 700 miles (round trip) to do it but I can't catch every game unless some of them are on tv. Anyone need an equimpment operator with 15 years under his belt in Missoula? :)
