ROOT Sports Stream Question

Cuervohola said:
Some of you have to figure this out real quick before Saturday.

Fubo has Root, but if you're in Montana, it will still be blacked out.

That was proven by myself and others.

I couldn't watch the Idaho / Eastern game on ESPN+ / Root when my VPN was off, but could when I chose a VPN setting on the East Coast.

You'll need a subscription to ESPN+, which you need for all the rest of the games anyway, and you'll need a VPN because Root thinks they are special people.

If you're somewhere else in the country, ESPN+ should be all you need.

I verified this worked last night watching the Avs/Blues game. Blacked out without VPN, able to watch with VPN.

I'm in Colorado and have access to my folks Directv Steam out of Kalispell. I was playing around the other night and thought I would see what was on Root. DTV stream has 2 root channels. One is Root NW and the other is Root NW plus. The Kraken game was blacked out on just the NW channel, but worked on the plus channel. So, I hope the Griz game works on one of them. I've been trying to figure out what the plus channel is and if it is nation wide. I'm in Colorado, so don't understand why one is blacked out.

Colorado is "close enough" to Seattle just like Montana is "close enough" to Seattle. When I had MLB TV a few years ago, I had to switch my VPN to the East Coast to watch Mariners games. It's just a money grab trying to get people to subscribe to cable (at least with Charter) because to have them, you have to pay $20 plus in made up imaginary "broadcast fees".

That's the only reason I can think of since most of the streaming services are owned by Cable / Satellite companies anyway.

I was wondering about ESPN+ overseas, so I clicked on the Bundesliga Soccer game in Germany and it worked fine. When I switched my VPN to Berlin, it was blacked out.

I always get the BSC games carried by Root ch. 687 on DirecTV, same as the Mariner games.

suggestions for a free VPN??

Here's some Free Trial VPN's... If you get an actual "free" VPN, I wouldn't do anything secure on the computer such as banking because they will probably sell all your info. The saying fits that there is nothing for free.

Some of these have 30 day Free Trials, so it will get you through the Kitten game.

I just got express VPN and it loaded and shows me in different parts of the country, but I still can't watch Root on espn+. Says it's blacked out. What am I doing wrong?

Ok, set your VPN to somewhere on the East Coast and try it.

I did. Got DC. clearing cache now.

Ok, with my VPN off, the Eastern / Idaho game didn't work. With it on, it worked fine even when I set it to Seattle.

I don't know anything about Express VPN, but if you click on the icon, does it say "On" or "Protected"??

If you're unsure about whether it's working, go to Lowes.com. If it shows the store near you, it's off. If it shows a weird store you have never heard of, it's on.

Lowe's shows VA. It must be a browser issue.

And it still doesn't work?

Well, you can chat with Express now to try to figure it out.
Thanks for your help tonight. I'll try in the morning.

No problem. You can chat with Express 24/7.

If in desperation, Nord VPN works fine.

As far as going straight to Root's site, don't. If they can't find where you are because the VPN is on, that's exactly what it says on the page.
