No no no. Lou, first you have to hate them for a reason that is partially erroneous (self-proclaimed). This could be problematic with the Texans becuase, presumably, the organization chose the name "Texans". But if it was by popular vote, etc., you got it!
Then, when called out for hating them for their self proclaimation which did not take place, you have to disregard that fact completely, and hate them becuase they did not object to being called the Texans. Additionally, you must back up your premise by asserting that Olympic teams (or in this case, Texas all-star teams) are the only teams entitled to the monniker.
I am very familiar with this process. I recently went through it with the Vandals: They did not choose to be called the Vandals; a reporter gave them the nickname. I overlooked this fact at the outset, but later determined that it did not matter. When they did not object to being called the Vandals, they became disrespectful to all teams comprised entirely of people who have been convicted of vandalism across this great land.
Don't even get me started on the Tennessee Volunteers. What makes them any more a part of the "Volunteer State" than any other team in that state? I think we shouldn't let any team in Tennessee be called the nickname of the state. That nickname should be reserved for people who play touch football in the back of soup kitchens. Or it should at least be limited to them and people who play in a bowling league after reading to old folks ealier that day...FOR FREE MIND YOU!
Also, "America's Team" as applied to only USA Olympic teams would still be problematic. What of all the teams from countries in North, Central, and South America? What makes our Olympic team more generally american than Panama's? They are from Central America...
This is a complex problem, and I thank mtgrizrule for bringing it up because we have to do something as good Central-North-Americans-residing-in-one-of-said-portion-of-America's-United-States.
