To paraphrase (because Coach Ron Ash seems wordy): "When someone gives us a verbal, he shouldn't change his mind, even if the school he really wanted all along comes through with an offer he likes. I hate it when the Griz out recruit me in Montana. Also, I give players money on signing day. God bless."

What would be some things that could be done differently? I'm just curious as to some ideas. The one thing to remember is U of M had to play by the same rules as MSU, and EWU and so on and so forth other that we had less to offer.

I guess what I am saying is when the field is a muddy mess both teams still have to play on that same field.

To the MSU fans posting here, I'm not disagreeing with Ash at all, and he does have a strong voice within the college football coaching community. He, along with every other college coach in America, knows the whole system is flawed, and he's speaking his mind about it, and for that I respect him. But the "heads up" thing that Catzwillrise alluded to is NOT ALL he's saying there. He CHOSE to say: "That commitment is a commitment." In other words, he's pretty much lecturing kids that decommit PERIOD, heads up or not. And what a lot of Griz' fans are saying, and probably others too, is, that's a slippery slope, since, I'm certain, in Ash's long, long coaching career, that he's taken some decommits, who both did, and didn't give a heads up to their prior commitment.

There's absolutely zero substance behind what he's saying. He's been exploiting the same system he's decrying here for years now.

Reading between the lines here. Ash is really saying, "We really got our asses kicked by the GRIZ for in state recruiting this year."

Get used to it and step up your game Ash. Stitt is taking the state of Montana recruiting very seriously. It sounded to me, in state recruits will be the life blood of GRIZ football while he is here. I am not saying it to be a smart ass either. He sounded very sincere and committed to recruiting this state and building relationships with the high school programs and coaches.

Some people are completing missing the boat and can't hear what he is saying because the sound of their Griz chest-thumping is too loud. I tend to agree with Ash that there needs to be a change in the way it is currently done.

I'm not missing anything. I didn't hear him banging out commitment speeches when they went his way. All of a sudden a couple don't and the entire system is flawed? It really does sound like nothing more than sour grapes if you ask me, but then again I'm biased because I hate the f*cking cats.

It would be odd if he used the same words had he had our recruiting class, or the class he wanted. Does kind of admit defeat in my opinion.

Here is the way I look at it, at least between our schools. Stitt and company have proven to be go getters, aggressive, smart and they did what they needed to do (within the rules) to win this first battle. My guess is that will continue to translate over on the field.

We are going to be playing aggressively, playing to win. Mr nice guy Ash will continue to play....not to lose.

Hard to tell; the Wombats are claiming to have had an excellent recruiting effort, but Ash today sounds angry, frustrated, and ... he's blaming the kids. All class.

Ash was more than glad to gin the system the past eight years at MSU, and more than glad to "play that game" as long as he could convince himself he was winning it, that he was the master at precisely that game. He was more than glad to bask in the illusion of the better recruiter as long as the fan base was willing to buy it. No one there can buy it after today.

So, why now, all of a sudden, issue a bitter diatribe today when he might have been trying to paper it over with positive comments?

That's the measure of just how bad things went for the Mighty Wombats this year. Against the school under sanctions with four fewer scholies, no less. After the guard was changed and the power shifted, no less. The lights came on, and the little man behind the curtain stepped out. They got smash-mouthed and Ash has nothing really to say except ... blame ... the kids. It's the kids' fault. From their resident expert; the man who knows. He's already setting up the excuses, distributing the blame. Somehow he left out McGhee.
