Rob Ash Fired

The bottom line 75 is you really don't have any idea when and what conversations took place before this went down. Yes they had a conversation Monday. There probably had been many throughout the year. You don't have any idea of how Ash reacted or the tone of their meeting.
Ironically, neither do you.

I can say exactly how it looked, however: "classless."

That requires no speculation whatsoever.

I wouldn't expect anything different from you.

14 pages and 344 posts later and "75" seems to want to bash the classy cats into oblivion. They fired their coach, it's never easy, they will search for and hopefully find a new one that can keep them competitive, they have more students over there, the Griz beat them and are in the playoffs, they aren't....

So let's talk GRIZ FOOTBALL and let the Cats do what they need to. Let's beat SDSU and get some fans there to help!!

75, how do you know they did not offer him some graceful exit options? He may have balked at this whole thing. Yes Sonny was mad. He was very close to Rob Ash.
Beat this to death. Fields said they had their conversation Monday morning, and Ash was not being cooperative. OK. Give it a couple of days. Anybody that has been in the real world of HR knows that you can't surprise/shock people and get the desired result. That's HR 101. These kinds of things need to be finessed, and sometimes it requires negotiating the severance, when it may start to look like the attractive option.

You could see how well thought out this was when Field announced that Ash had been fired and then offered to take questions. Oh, then, oops, perfunctorily, "oh and by the way Ash was a great coach." And offered to take questions again. Nothing "classy" about that either.

On the other hand, if MSU wanted to make this look like a hasty and botched firing, a "classless endeavor," they got "A+" on that one. Fields made it look that way. That requires no speculation.

The bottom line 75 is you really don't have any idea when and what conversations took place before this went down. Yes they had a conversation Monday. There probably had been many throughout the year. You don't have any idea of how Ash reacted or the tone of their meeting. As far as the press conference, Fields was asked some very antagonistic questions (that is ok). He had to be very careful as to how he answered them (probably from a legal standpoint). It was like walking thru a mindfield. Also, Peter had tremendous respect for Rob and I am sure this was very difficult for him emotionally. I really do not think any of the things you are speculating are valid. However, you are entitled to your opinion.

33, do you know what occurred? If so, why don't you tell us. If you don't, then I don't see why should keep saying 75 doesn't know what occurred.

Unlike you, to reach my conclusion I do not have to fabricate conversations that may or may not have happened, and pretend that extenuating circumstances "might" exist when in fact you are the one wildly speculating only that they "might" but don't actually seem to know.

I don't have to speculate. The "firing" is classless.

Do you think you can get this thread up to 20 pages?

33....anyone can see that your AD doesn't have a spark of leadership abilities. People like him are not decision makers, but only followers. On the other hand, your President is from a different mold....

No doubt, their AD was told to fire Ash.

Waded pulled a Royce. Maybe, but nobody can out-Royce Royce. She didn't have the nuts to can Ash AND Fields, yet.

I think there are a whole lot of Griz that would love to have Waded in place of Engstrom!

Seeing that Ash is gone.
Logic dictates that the DC is next.

I mean, what does he have to hang his hat on the past couple years? Esp against UM.

Ms Pres Waded C. had fired a number of dept. heads that did not follow her leanings. In almost every case she had the new head in mind and hired before the ink was dry. Yes she has beaten Royce in every subject. She only lacks in the sports dept. and she is heading after Royce in that regard. This could be the only game that she can't even beat a weak and beaten down Engstrom. She has the Regents in her hand and after the $500,000 she just received she is still on top, has that group fooled.

Still a good day to be a Griz. In time all this will shake out.

I would not bet on that at all. Umista stop smoking that stuff!
