RIP Jim Brown

I'm on some email chains with some Dartmouth grads from the mid 50's classes. Almost all athletes. Football, lacrosse, baseball, rugby. Some of them played lacrosse against Jim Brown. On occasion, they like to heckle one of the very good Dartmouth players who had the misfortune of trying to defend Jim Brown a time or two. The crap they give is really funny. I hope I'm as sharp and active as some of the guys in this group when I'm their age.

What an incredibly athlete Brown was. Up there with Jim Thorpe.

Nice (short) memorial to Brown during the Lacrosse game being broadcast on ESPNU. FYI: The NCAA men's lacrosse championship is on right now ... quarterfinals today, with Virginia vs Georgetown.

I've never understood why lacrosse isn't more popular. It moves as much or more than soccer (more substitutions allowed), and they actually score.

I think Jim Brown and Jim Thorpe are 2 of MAYBE a handful of athletes you could drop in any sports era and they would be exceptional.

I’d add Bo Jackson to that list. But it’s a short one, for certain.

For sure. It’s a real shame that his body got beat into the ground and abused and he wasn’t able to reach his full potential as a pro due to health. Or that he didn’t have the treatment and medical advances that todays athletes have. He is just a phenomenal athlete and talent.

Whatever the hip injury was he suffered in football ended it all.
