agree completely.... i want to see what this guy can do once he gets the football in his hands :thumb:

TM can't throw the ball that well, we all saw that in the spring and fall. Oh sure he can hit the bubble screen but his percentage of going down field is not great. Anybody have stats on that?AZGrizFan said:argh! said:he was wide open several times in the app state game. the question is whether he can catch the ball if it gets thrown his way.
yep....a couple of McKinney's passes he missed Henderson completely wide open....was frustrating to watch.

I was able to catch a little practice on Tuesday and Henderson scored three times on three completely different routes...no problems catching the pill...looks like he plucked the only one thrown to him at App State too. I want to see him more involved in the offense or move him to Corner where he can stop other teams best guy.
krammer said:first i am a hermmy fan, but must point out he had a very poor tackling game at app state,,,,if you watch the game again, you will notice from the middle of third qtr on the whole team did not tackle well...it may have been from fatigue of holding them scoreless while we got back into the game,,,,anyway you slice it, we can do much better and i expect hermmy and tully to do just that....

Unfortunately, the poor safety/ corner back play has reached "beat a dead horse" status on this board.
As some posters have suggested, we have a depth problem at safety anyway so we are stuck with Hermy/ Tully for the year. This issue will continue be with us.
Lebsock is a RS Freshman and probably not ready for prime time yet.
Rominger is listed at 5' 10" but looks more like 5'8" so tall receivers would be a bad match up for him anyway.
Coogan the "hard hitting JC transfer is out with a neck/spine injury.Gamboa is red shirting.
I don't know how good the receivers that we will be facing for the rest of the season are going to be but I can tell you this, if coach Ty can't make an "adjustment" on the "skinny post" pattern for a TD, it is going to be a mute point. Believe me, the OC's of the of SD/ ASU saw SOMETHING on tape with our personnel and scheme. Hermy/Tully have been out of position horribly on those two TD plays. Maybe mixing in cover 3 every now and then will help. I don't know. If we are going to improve our DB play, coach Ty will have to "step up" too.

mcg said:In the pre-season the conventional wisdom was that the defense would be quite good and would have to carry a young offense through the first part of the season.
In the App game the offense scored 27 points, usually enough to win, but the defense gave up 35.
So....what do you think, might the defense be not quite as skilled as first thought?

The O gave App. 14 points.
We held them to 3.3 per carry.mikegriz said:mcg said:In the pre-season the conventional wisdom was that the defense would be quite good and would have to carry a young offense through the first part of the season.

You know, everybody's focused on secondary play, Hermanson, Tully. I only got to see a couple highlight reels, but the run defense against ASU, right from the line of scrimmage, looked pretty damned weak to me. No expert (just a "pedestrian" fan) - thoughts?
