I'm not surprised at all, our offensive lineman were average at best last year. I'm not putting all the blame on them because having a new o line coach who was young and stayed for 1 season probably didn't help, but there was a huge drop off from the year prior to this past year, especially at center. And after watching this years spring game, our centers don't look that good either. They could barely snap it straight back to the QB consistently. Often times the snaps were too high and to the left.
Hopefully this new o line coach can turn things around and protect our QB and make some holes for our rbs. A lot of big plays that Eli made weren't because of good blocking on the line, it was him breaking a tackle and then out running the rest. Actually the receivers did a great job at down field blocking.
We all know our strength is in our running game until one of our QBs can step up and take the reins, thus our o line play needs to be 10 times better than last year. We don't just need big bodies, we need lineman who are smart enough to pick up different blitzes at a moments notice and have good footwork. It doesn't mean jack shit if we have lineman that are 6'6" 300lbs if they can't move and control the line.
LIke I've said before, it all starts up front. And that goes for both sides of the ball. If we can't control the line of scrimmage then we're in for another disappointing season by GRIZ standards.
We need LEADERS and guys to step up!
