Reporting Live! From bozo

Administrative class….”How to Sweep Coaching Matters Under The Rug” taught by Chronicle news reporters is given in bozeman and I believe the university president, head football coach, and ad have successfully passed the course. A text book “Winning at All Costs” is the primary reading source. Who says college course work can’t be applied in real life situations……

You guys want reporters ran out of town for reporting negatively about UM, but you also want reporters ran out of town for not reporting negatively on MSU.

Stop traffic, but do you think that possibly, in some realm, there might be something between (a) repetitive stories every day, and (b) absolutely zero follow-up?

“Yo, the MSU OC got popped for aggravated DUI and fleeing the scene when he called an underling to clean it up for him. Nobody really knows what happened because we’re not going to go grab a police report or anything, fam. Ok, cool. There’s a huckleberry fest coming up. See ya never. Yee-Howdy!”

Are you familiar with this neighborhood? Seems like the yuppie village down there. I’ve been out there before and it’s really not that far from campus but Patterson dead ends into a creek. If you don’t make that corner, I don’t think you will make it far.
Do any staff or MSdUi admin live out there? Isn’t that near the president mansion and coach Sixx’s home?

So, did the MSdUi OC crash into the creek before trying to cover it up and flee the scene, or was it in a different location? Was there another car or house involved? When did he call the RB coach? Or did he even call? Was it someone else he called in that neighborhood who tried to “take care of it”? Why no police report? Why the sudden change in MSdUi policy following the second/third incidents? Why the extensions/raises with all of these criminal charges pending? It’s all buried deep down for now, because there is a game in less than a month. You may be our only hope to ever learn anything about these alleged criminals’ alleged crimes because the Bozeman media does not give a single fudge about drunk driving.

CDA, you and garrizalies need to team up to get this bullshit show on the road. This coverup in Bozo is a bad joke. You could be the 'Deep Throat' in this modern day Watergate coverup, guiding garrizalies through the legal deadends, minefields, and greased slopes. PM each other and get this going. Maybe you could use some of that Merlin Magic to get justice done, in both Bozeman and Helena. Do it!

Maybe we’re already on it. I’m in Maui and I’m too old to think water slides are fun for more than two rides (ok, maybe four), so we have top men working on it right now. Top…men. I’ve said too much.

You sound like an 'Indiana Jones' movie line. You had a plethora of good questions, for a competent prosecutor to follow up on. I can only hope you are serious, so this cabal at MSdUi can be held to account. A multi-tiered justice system is bullshit.

I enjoy Colters take on a lot of things, especially highlighting Montana athletes from around the State at the high school and collegiate level as well as his coverage of the Big Sky as a whole.

My knock at this point would be simply that he gave a fiery response to criticism on this board directly and stated that he was working on a special edition podcast the very next week to address the issue and his thoughts on the different factors influencing coverage. To my knowledge we did not see anything for the next several weeks.

I do know that he has spoken about some issues in his show in bits and pieces here and there, but far from the exposé he promised to deliver. Negative feedback shouldn’t have bearing on his intent given the position that he took nor as a journalist. Feel free to correct me if I missed such an episode.

We don't work in the world of exposes. The guest I'd like to record with was on vacation the last two weeks. He doesn't work for me and will do this for free. So we will have it for the angry mob as soon as we can.

I'm not at all an angry mob. I've even said that I wouldn't have immediately fired them. Just suspend them from activities and encourage them to seek help while the process plays out. I'm not one of the more aggressive people about it.

I have plenty of radio and podcast experience. If you need someone to talk to and be reasonable, I will sign right up. Tell me when and where. I will be your guest, free of charge. I will be polite, and reasonable, and you will have my full permission ahead of time to edit out anything you don't like. Lets talk about it.

Coulter, do you work in the world of asking obvious questions?

Truly not trying to be a dick here. Just trying to understand what it is exactly you do. It’s a major story. With major unanswered (unasked??) questions. Just trying to understand why anyone in the industry wouldn’t be crawling over each other to ask them.

Thanks for the update Colter and addressing my lone criticism. It was my understanding that an exposé is a journalistic reporting of the facts of an issue or scandal, and isn’t limited to the media utilized for that delivery. I’m pretty sure you marketed the Griz Greats podcast as such when rolling it out, even using the term exposé, and a special podcast devoted to this topic would be in the same wheelhouse, at least in my understanding.

I think you did one such update on the Big Sky Breakdown when reporting the initial incident. Not much followed for some of the reasons you addressed, so I have been interested to hear your take on the issues that have limited the information around this situation and prevented more coverage of the situation, and on the differences between the two markets and universities.

I understand your feelings toward the group as a whole, and the mob mentality leading to criticism directed your way. I think for the most part it is somewhat misplaced anger from a small segment of Griz Fans due to the situation around the handling of the situations in the early 2010’s at UM and the fortunes that have been affected henceforth from that fallout. I also have no doubt if the roles were reversed in the exact same situations and history of the programs, the same vitriol would be coming your way from the other side of the divide.

Totally. It’s why I brought up the bored NYT reporter. Anyone can just talk about this shit on a podcast. That’s just audio of what we’ve done here. How about somebody with a credential goes into a press conference and has sack enough to ask someone in charge about the decision making at MSU? I saw Coach Sixx spoke to the media recently. Nary a query. If asking leaders questions about important stories in the program “isn’t what you do”, why not just give up the press credential and just post opinion audio files on eGriz and BCN?

The state of journalism in this State seem reminiscent of reporting back in the days when The Company(Anaconda Copper Mining)controlled all newspapers in the State, save ONE who printed the truth. Can anyone name that lone newspaper?

Today, there isn't that ONE willing to tackle the subject(pun intended). It's not just newspapers anymore, it's radio, TV, & the internet. Garizzalies seems to be the only ONE with the balls enough to do it, and determination to see it through! :thumb:

Colter, in my view, whines like a pre-schooler who got his c*ck caught in his zipper. He, like the pre-schooler, caused his own problems. If he had an ounce of integrity he would stop making excuses and report the goddamned truth, and stop hiding behind some definition of what it is he does. This is the biggest sports related story in a long time. Short of covering the truth behind this fiasco, he just needs to come out and say it's MSU that butters his bread and drop the pretense being objectively fair to both UM and MSU.

You're insane

I don't see the Cat coach legal problems as being the biggest sports matter/issue in the state.

From my viewpoint, Colter can do what he wants to do. He does not work for a newspaper. He works for himself. He owes us nothing.

If I was in his shoes, I sure wouldn't burn bridges with MSU or the Cat coach. He needs good access and people who like him, in order to get information for his stories and podcasts and for us.

I don't subscribe or read much of Colter's stuff, but I haven't noticed a MSU bias. I know Colter a bit and believe he is a good guy, probably a very good guy. He doesn't deserve the flak from some of you, in my view.

Of course Coulter can do as he wishes. No one has suggested he cannot.

What we're saying is he cannot call himself a journalist if he doesn't cover the largest sports story in Montana in years (it is), and will not ask difficult questions at the risk of pissing someone off. Sorry. Those things are listed one and two in a journalist's job description.

If he wants to say, "I'm a writer of fluff pieces on sports; nothing but roses and rainbows here!!", that's awesome. Just don't hold yourself out as a journalist if you are not.

I agree, but this is a satirical thread on an anonymous fan message board. Can’t we do what we want too? Remember, he keeps coming here, we’re not seeking him out. I have to keep pointing that out to posters

If I was in his shoes, I sure wouldn't burn bridges with MSU or the Cat coach. He needs good access and people who like him, in order to get information for his stories and podcasts and for us. No comment. If I were in his shoes, I would never comment here—he’s practically begging for these responses

He doesn't deserve the flak from some of you, in my view.I don’t subscribe to his stuff either but I happened to click on something once. I think I was actually channeling surfing and not looking for it. He was talking about how much he loves the bubcat coaches, particularly choach. He was gushing. Seriously, I’d seen enough. Never heard him say anything like that about BH, which is fine, I’d rather not hear it about any coach. My impression, which I formed on a small snapshot likely taken out of context, was that he claimed to be non-bias but admittedly had favorite coaches, and personally liked the bubcat coaches better than the Griz ones. Maybe I misinterpreted that. Either way, it’s fine, he can have his opinion and favorites and we can too
