Rent-A-Crowd

Ogden, which insists on dispatching the tournament to far off locales populated by indifferent folks, many of whom have probably forgotten (if they ever knew) about the Big Sky thinking instead it might be an IMAX planetarium show, needs to wise up - or at least remediate the damage caused by their dumb decision. Being able to do a quick count of the first round Reno "crowd" down to its numbers by gender and ethnicity tells an embarrassing story. At least for the Saturday night final on ESPNU maybe the BSC hierarchy could go to the local unemployment office and recruit enough people to fill a few hundred courtside seats in exchange for a Mickey D's meal voucher - then request ESPN refrain from any wide angle camera coverage. We know we're of no consequence to the outside world, but jeez do we have to go out of our way to reinforce the perception :?:

SportsCenter tweeted a clip from the UNC game yesterday of a big dunk, and this was my personal favorite response.

Consider, if you will, what happened when we lost our regional teams and the unbalanced scheduling. Not playing schools within driving distance was (and is inexcusable) and extremely shortsighted. People quit going to games, even quit watching on television. You know what the trends are for this conference and it's only going to get worse.

But again, what do I know? And if I say anything, I'm just complaining and whining. To think the Griz don't play MSU, ISU, Weber, now Idaho, and EWU every year in football is beyond comprehension to me. Same way with MSU. In basketball, throw in the regional teams OOC. Just as asinine as when the WAC over estimated their influence and expanded to 16 teams. The few regional minded people with a modicum of common sense split off and formed the MWC but then both Utah and BYU bailed.

Who is it that stated "A government, institution or society gets the leadership it deserves?" Anyway...as Mother Teresa used to say...

Most logical site might just be Weber. Yes... a home court but well-located geographically for the conference....and easy cheaper flights.

2 years at Weber......two at another conference location with suitable arena and city logistics (i.e. Missoula, Bozeman, maybe Spokane, maybe in bigger Portland arena)?

...I remember a tourney title game when MT took down Weber at Weber....Electric 1st half crowd, "numbed" 2nd half crowd, great game, and plenty of cool ESPN shots of AJ scoring a million second half points.

Bozeman should be the choice. Decent venue, will get crowds from some of the bigger attendance schools, and no one gets a home court advantage because Boze State isn't good enough for it to matter.

Boy, you simply cannot buy that kind of marketing for your conference. Top notch job, guys!!

Why is it that 3 major conferences have had their conference tournament there for a number of years?
