Dave Dickenson played at WGS that is the end of the who was the best player discussion. And if Johnathon Takes Enemy ever played at Adams Field House that is the end of that dicussion.
Larry Pretty Weasel was better.

They were different. Both amazing.

9 years in the NFL, 223 yards rushing, 260 yards receiving, 1 TD, 5 fumbles.
9 years in the league as a RB puts him in a very, very small group of elite professionals.
It would ... if he spent all nine years as an RB. But, as I recall, he also had two years or so as a Cornerback. Any way you look at it, however, those numbers are pretty anemic. Plenty of guys do more than that in a season.

If you're wondering (as I did) how he has hung on so long ... it's because he was/is outstanding on Special Teams. The sports stats reference page I looked a doesn't show the number, but the Wiki bio says he has 1,890 return yards. The Wiki also says he led the American Conference in return yards in 2015. Not gigantic for nine seasons, but good enough keep getting him contracts.

9 years in the NFL...

Very few humans can or have done that...I don't care what he did while there.

I bet Elvis Old Bull would have a say?

Totally agree. Especially the case for running backs. Was not trying to put him down in any way. But I was curious to know what has kept him around ... the rushing and receiving stats just didn't add up. Of course, the "normal" career for a Special Teams specialist is maybe worse than RB, which makes his longevity even more impressive.

Brian Ah Yat > VAJ
Dave Dickenson > VAJ
Armonte Edward's > VAJ
John Friesz > VAJ
Doug Nussmeier > VAJ

Vernon Adams is like the boogeyman to some Griz fans.

I watched Elvis and Emmitt and whomever the third brother was play for Lodgegrass in Missoula when Elvis was a soph around '88, he was as good a basketball player as you'd ever want to see.

At both Hardin and Rocky, I've never seen a better MT pure shooter than Pretty Weasel. Since his time was the 50's, few today remember. Hardin and Lodge Grass are not very far apart; there are some old fans there that do remember Pretty Weasel and agree with me.

Yeah I've heard nothing but that he was a legend, can't make an informed statement as he was way before my time. I could state Red Grange was better than Bronko Nagurski but it wouldn't mean crap.

I heard Wayne Estes was pretty spectacular.

I did get to see Elvis Old bull play in one of the the state tourneys and he was like 6'3" and played like he was 5'9" and 6'9" at the same time, it is a shame he never played at the next level(s) .

Raiders never really used him at RB, except in pre-season. Scat back, slot receiver, yes. He was a return specialist and ST coverage (speed) guy, who they moved to CB/NB from 2013-2016, then back to return specialist/backup RB, released in 2017. Still has speed. As impressive as that play was from Watson, very few RB/WR's in the NFL could have turned on the burners like Taiwan did, taking it down to like the 10. He blew up all the initial defenders' angles, just like he did back in the day in the Big Sky.

Pretty Weasel was very very good. My dad took me to see him play a couple times. It's hard for me to compare to other players who were different sizes and had styles, and who played in other eras. Also, I was just a young kid when I saw him play.

I like your 5'9"/6'9" description. For a great Indian player, he didn't seem to be incredibly athletic. But he was incredibly good. If the game was close at the end, he was going to find a way to win.

I'm not a huge Bball fan, but one of my regrets is not getting to see Estes play. Anaconda High was different in the 60's.

I am a Raiders fan and he was pretty outstanding on special teams during his time there. Good to see this for him. I didn't think he was playing anymore.

I saw Estes play against the Cats in Bozeman, Big, smooth, great shooter, awesome hook shot, including from the corner. Both hands for the hook shot, I think I recall.

Mike Persia got to play against him in Logan when Mike was with the Griz and drew the defensive assignment. Mike said he felt pretty good holding him down to about 9 in the first half. Until Wayne put in 37 in the second half. He had pizzas sent to the visiting locker room and came in and spent personal time with every player before they left. Those who knew him say he was a better person than player. Could have been a hell of an NBA power forward.
