Unless Bobby brings in 2-3 more O-line transfers we’re in for another season of “better hope like hell none of the starters go down”.

This is why I’m picking us to go 1-10 with the sole W over the #scumcats. Because Bobby. Also, nobody seems to be putting it together that we’ve had the shittiest winter weather I can remember, and it just so happens to coincide with Bobby being the HC? Hmm, makes you think. 🤔

Well he IS the head coach, so it’s a bit difficult to talk about the shortcomings of this team without mentioning the head coach. ;)

If you went to practice and talked to coaches, you would know they are good.

I'm sure the coaches just wait with baited-breath to talk with you at practice. I heard they drew straws to see who gets to first.

I know most of the coaches. Bobby the best. We don't talk much at practice, or after. But other AD people are at practices and are often talkative. They come to my big annual parties. I sometimes go to a bar where they meet frequently during the season. Some have been to the lake house. A former coach used to contact me and have me make posts on egriz.

Coaching could have realized that a Griz qb hasn't been healthy all through a season for like 6 years straight and done a better job of finding or developing a back up.
Which UM QB wasn't "healthy all through a season" in 2018? Sneed started every game and threw for at least 200 yards in all but one. Oh, and he was the leading UM rusher. Regarding backup, the only Griz QB to take a snap that year other than Sneed was Cam Newton. Was he an inadequate backup?

You're right, I honestly forgot that Sneed did play every game. He was a fun qb and damn good. Not sure Cam Newton played here tho :D

Yeah, my bad, of course Cam Humphrey.

C'mon man, get with the program. Threads are supposed to be about slamming drunk-driving Bozeman coaches and picking fights with Bozeman posters. Nothing bout Bobby needed here. Because CDA.

You don’t like the young backups? How do you know about their quality? They will have a year more of experience and strength.

And....there it is. The first post of the off season describing how much the youngsters have/ will improve.

Except...it hasn't been true in 7 + years.

Any new 300 pounders? 500 bench?

There have been three of fifteen seasons since 2007 that a QB made it though to start every game. Sneed in 2018, Johnson in 2013 and Cole Berquist in 2007. Hard to know if there was or wasn't adequate backup for the starter since they didn't need to play them for any meaningful snaps those seasons. Humphrey appeared on the team roughly the same time as Sneed and minus the guy who didn't hang around to find out what might have been, I think it's premature to assume he was the plug and play Cam Humphrey of the following seasons. Humphrey started two in 2019, two in the non-season season of 2020 season and was injured himself in 2021. 2019 was the year of Marcus Knight, a year when the quarterback didn't need to be the leading rusher. You know, like they draw it up.

Suggesting that the backup be adequate, particularly when they are needed, isn't the moon/sun/stars kind of request. In 2015, the kid who got knocked out in game two returned for the final four. One of the backups that season would actually wind up as a TE a couple of rosters later, and would be called on to give er the old college try one more time. Remember that guy? He passed for 44 and ran for a 105 in a two point loss. Who he played for doesn't matter. What matters is that most of the time, a backup QB will be called upon to take meaningful snaps in what are likely winnable games. Wouldn't it be great if they were prepared for those moments? You can do the research yourself, but I'm pretty sure it's safe to say that sometimes they have been, and sometimes, not so much.

Who, as it turns out, is a better QB than Cam Newton.
