Ready For Some Football?

The way Kaiden Pinnick played today is exactly the way the Griz need to get Ah Yat to play. Pinnick’s a freshmen and because of that, he went for all the safe throws. The check downs, the dump offs, and used his feet when needed (which we’ve seen Ah Yat do). Ah Yat is also still young and with our weapons he does not need to do anything heroic out there. Davis did a great job of putting Pinnick in a position to succeed tonight. Take notes Bobby and Pease.
I would rather Ah Yat play like Victor Gabalis of Tarleton State than Pinnick of UC Davis. If he plays like Pinnick, he won't be healthy all season.

The point I’m making is Davis set their young QB up for success by not asking him do anything big. They gave him nice easy throws he could make with success and he used his feet when needed. That’s exactly how the Griz need to call it for Ah Yat. Expecting him to go out there and sling it like Gabalis who’s a 4 year starter is not realistic. Put him in a position to succeed.

RECAP:

-UIW offense is either not as good as advertised or Nicholls has that good of defense, I suspect a little of both.

-Idaho State seems to be continually improving under Hawkins, if they can keep this offensive firepower going will be a legitimate threat in Conference play.

-Portland State I honestly wonder why they have a Football team, no fan support, awful facilities and unfortunately for them not a good ball team this season.

-Davis in a battle against arguably the best team in the SoCon and their Freshman QB played welll. Sucky situation for both schools.

That Davis game is worse than a tie. For playoff time, it wasn't played and doesn't count, however, you can't take out the human element and if there are people in the room that remember it, they will vote accordingly. If they are from the Big Sky then, they would be inclined to tend toward believing Davis holds on for the win. If the eastern/southern bias is in effect, they will find a reason to put one of their teams ahead of anyone west of the Mississippi, so it's only a bonus that this is a team known as Cal anything.
On the other hand, how badly did our second half collapse at Grand Forks affect the Griz for the playoffs last year?
I went to bed figuring that waiting over an hour that it wouldn't get under way again, but I figured they would finish it this morning or something, not just call it as if it never happened. Now it's no more than just taking a long trip to have a live scrimmage.
Bad for the kids on both sides though for sure. Long flight back for the Davis kids and I would imagine, even though this was in more or less Mercer's back yard, they bused from Macon, GA because of the cost and its only about 200 miles.

Just so you know: Several people had to be rescued from flash flooding in the Montgomery area last night. Hope the spectators all got home okay, but suspect the players had to hunker down somewhere.

(Relatives/in-laws in Montgomery, so of more than average concern to us. We think they're all okay.)

Praying all are safe. Don't need another flooding event like what happened in the Texas Hill Country.

Worse still for the players, since it is declared 'no contest,' none of the stats count.

This is the worst rule ever!

So, if a kid broke his leg in the game, it isn't broken any more? You can't just completely say this never happened.

Wow, Sam Houston is getting schooled by Western Kentucky. It's 41-24 now after 21 straight points for WKU. I can't believe I paid for tickets to see SHSU in Hawaii. Anyone want to buy two tickets?
Hawaii is beating Stanford 17-13 on that soccer field they are using.
It would be fun to watch Micah Alejado live. That kid is a dynamo.

Any word on how bad his injury was? Props to the kid playing through the pain, but hopefully they'll be able to get him some rest so he won't burn out in the first part of rhe season.

Haven’t heard. Reminds me a lot of Timmy Chang.
Should be an interesting game and I was not serious on selling the tickets. My wife's team is SHSU, so we'll hope for the best, but this kid is a handful if he's healthy and I hope I get to see him.
We will be streaming the CWU game on the phones, but the first week of the season is always around her birthday and she loves the game. She does come from a football family though, so we have seen a lot of good football over the years, and I just need some help to bring her out of being just a closet Griz fan. We'll be up there soon, so I have no doubt that we will get her fully on board!
I will give you all a full report on Alejado though if he plays. He is another young guy that needs to learn that the slide can be his best friend if he is going to move along with a game where at the next higher level everyone gets bigger and faster.
