Yeah with how tight the conference is though I really feel NOV 20th game will be for a playoff appearance. Griz win they are in, lose they are out. Cats are in win or lose but win they are a top two seed.

I'm not there yet. Idaho could stun the 1-AA world by beating the Kittens, and UCD might walk all over Eastern. If Eastern loses again, they might be out, as weird as that would have sounded 3 weeks ago.
I agree, the cats haven't played anybody yet. Eastern sucks.

You’re f###[#] high. There will be at least one 6-5 team in the playoffs.

Yeah but how many from each conference? SAC and MSU with one maybe two losses, Davis looking good, EWU Does the Big Sky get 5 teams in or if the Griz lose to the Cats maybe 6?

If we beat NAU next week, we are in no matter what.

An 8-3 Griz team with a win over UW gets in 100 times out of 100.

100%. Win next week and in playoffs for sure regardless of anything else.

Really you think the Big Sky is gonna get 5 in? Because an 8-3 record the Griz would most likely be 5th in the conference and no good reason other than that WA win to jump them over someone else. They would be on the bubble at least but far from a lock.

Saw so many “WhY DiD Eb PlAy sO bAd AgAinSt ThE cAtS?” All in good fun. Of course EWU only dropped passes against us, right? I bet they had a ton of injuries too and we got lucky 😉

A 9-2 Griz team is a seeded team. An 8-3 Griz team opens at home in the first round. There is no possibility of an 8-5 Griz record.
One more win, the Griz are a lock for the playoffs.
Go Griz!

Quick-and-Dirty Guesses

Okay, I made a rough cut on the likely new top-10. However, I did not try to figure in some of the factors the pollsters seem to like, so I’m not real confident just yet. I do think the Griz will move into the top-10, but not by a lot.

Guess, Team, [Current Rank]
[1] Sam Houston [1]
[2] James Madison [3]
[3] Montana State [4]
[4] South Dakota State [9]
[5] NDSU [2]
[6] UC Davis [8]
[7] Villanova [10]
[8] EWU [5]
[9] Montana [11]
[10] SE Louisiana [6]
...
[12] Southern Illinois [7]

Actually, my big worry is that the pollsters will be harsher than I expect. The past couple of weeks, they’ve really punished some teams, even when their loss was to a highly ranked opponent. In my mind, that could hurt SELA, which may fall a couple more spots.

I'll work that in when I do my “official” guesses tomorrow.

I’m a little confused Ray- at 8-5 doesn’t that mean the Griz lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs? So how could they not make the playoffs?

I guess I just don't see how the Griz could not be behind EWU and Sac St. given the head to head losses which the committee does consider Then if the Griz lose to MSU you have MSU, UCD, Sac St and EWU ahead of MT meaning the committee would have to take 5 teams from the big sky for MT to get into the playoffs

There is literally no world where 8-3 Montana with an FBS win does not make the playoffs. Zero.

It doesn't matter what our conference record is.

We are 100% locked into a playoff birth if we win next weekend.

If those 4 teams are ahead of us, then the Big Sky is getting 5 teams in guaranteed.

It will have more to do with the number and quality of other bubble teams than how many from the BSC.

Yep. Stone cold lock if we take care of business next weekend.

The Big Sky could and will most likely get 5 teams into the playoffs.
As it sits tonight, either the Cats, Sac State or UC Davis will probably win the BS auto seed.
Anyone sitting 8-3 or better will be in. (7-4 will be a bubble team)
The cats, UC Davis, Sac State, EWU and Griz all could finish with an 8-3 record or better.
UC Davis 8-1, has Sac State and EWU left
Cats 8-1 have Idaho and the Griz left
Griz 7-2, have Northern Arizona and the Cats left
Sac State 6-2, has Portland State and UC Davis (currently leading Cal Poly 21-9)
EWU 7-2, has UC Davis and Portland State
With 24 teams making the playoffs, there is a possibility of a 7-4 Team making the playoffs.
Portland State sure has a chance to burst a team or two’s bubble.
Go Griz!

I think the UNI overtime loss today could actually be a big help for the Griz. If they had won today, they would have likely won out. They would have been 8-3 with wins over Sac State, South Dakota State and Southern Illinois. With their loss today, they are probably on the outside looking in. That might have opened up an at large playoff spot.

They already knocked Weber out of the playoffs today. :thumb:

They might even be a bubble team if they can win out.

Damn, I didn't realize that. I had to go look at their schedule. To be a fan of UNI this year is like WTF? Talk about what team shows up.

Yeah I hadn't seen that score.

Northern Iowa now has 4 losses, and they will likely drop to around #18 or so. So they're on shaky ground. And they still have to play AT Missouri State, which has shown that they are for real.
