--The Selection show has been changed this year. Used to be, they'd drag it out forever, but this year all teams and brackets will be announced in the first 15 minutes. So I hear.
--On another thread, michaelsol said in all the years he's watched Griz basketball, that second half last night was the best he'd ever seen from a Griz team. Me too. Given that EWU came in as the hottest team in the conference; that we were down by 11 at the half; and most especially given the importance of the game, this one will go down as legendary in Griz basketball annals.
--Seemed it was their shooting ability against our athleticism. Their shooting won the first half, our athleticism the second. For the first two and a half games of this tournament, it seemed we were playing not to lose; in the second half, we found the desperation that DeCuire preaches, and fully exerted our athleticism.I hope we carry that attitude into the tournament: Let 'er rip! Don't play tight!
--Oguine was surely the MVP of the tournament, but Rorie was MVP of that game last night. He defended their star, six inches taller, and pretty much shut him down.
--Pridgett: Wow, has be blossomed or what. He's really added an exceptional dimension to this team. I love it now when he's on the floor. How high his ceiling? Higher yet. His game is taking off. (And oh yes, you could say exactly the same thing of Falls.)
--Used to be, when we went to the Big Dance, you could be sure our guard line would be overmatched by quicker faster players, such as happens when Lady Griz get to the tournament. Not this year.
--Nicholas: I know he didn't play much in this tournament, but against the bigger front lines we'll see at the Dance, I think he'll get more playing time.
--Krslovic: Way way underrated. Reminds me a bit of Zaza Pachulia of the Warriors. Lumbering, slow, but doing all the little things that win basketball games--especially his defense.
--The DeCuire legacy. In all the years I've been attending Griz football and basketball games--all away, unhappily--I've wondered why football could turn out such numbers of rabid Griz fans, while the basketball games in the same town as the football games were always always so sparsely attended. Maroon blood only flowed for football? Sure, basketball was at night, but I've seen night football games as Sac State where Griz Nation turned out in huge numbers, sometimes in inclement weather, while hardly anybody showed up for a night basketball game there. Is that changing? Does that crowd in Reno portend more passion for basketball? Could it be that DeCuire has re-ignited the passion for basketball at Montana, a la our glory days? That would be his greatest legacy.
