--The Selection show has been changed this year. Used to be, they'd drag it out forever, but this year all teams and brackets will be announced in the first 15 minutes. So I hear.

--On another thread, michaelsol said in all the years he's watched Griz basketball, that second half last night was the best he'd ever seen from a Griz team. Me too. Given that EWU came in as the hottest team in the conference; that we were down by 11 at the half; and most especially given the importance of the game, this one will go down as legendary in Griz basketball annals.

--Seemed it was their shooting ability against our athleticism. Their shooting won the first half, our athleticism the second. For the first two and a half games of this tournament, it seemed we were playing not to lose; in the second half, we found the desperation that DeCuire preaches, and fully exerted our athleticism.I hope we carry that attitude into the tournament: Let 'er rip! Don't play tight!

--Oguine was surely the MVP of the tournament, but Rorie was MVP of that game last night. He defended their star, six inches taller, and pretty much shut him down.

--Pridgett: Wow, has be blossomed or what. He's really added an exceptional dimension to this team. I love it now when he's on the floor. How high his ceiling? Higher yet. His game is taking off. (And oh yes, you could say exactly the same thing of Falls.)

--Used to be, when we went to the Big Dance, you could be sure our guard line would be overmatched by quicker faster players, such as happens when Lady Griz get to the tournament. Not this year.

--Nicholas: I know he didn't play much in this tournament, but against the bigger front lines we'll see at the Dance, I think he'll get more playing time.

--Krslovic: Way way underrated. Reminds me a bit of Zaza Pachulia of the Warriors. Lumbering, slow, but doing all the little things that win basketball games--especially his defense.

--The DeCuire legacy. In all the years I've been attending Griz football and basketball games--all away, unhappily--I've wondered why football could turn out such numbers of rabid Griz fans, while the basketball games in the same town as the football games were always always so sparsely attended. Maroon blood only flowed for football? Sure, basketball was at night, but I've seen night football games as Sac State where Griz Nation turned out in huge numbers, sometimes in inclement weather, while hardly anybody showed up for a night basketball game there. Is that changing? Does that crowd in Reno portend more passion for basketball? Could it be that DeCuire has re-ignited the passion for basketball at Montana, a la our glory days? That would be his greatest legacy.

Good post - good point - good momentum for the program - I remember when Griz Basketball was a big show in Missoula - can DeCuire keep it going ?

Citay, why do you think Nicholas was held out? He's long and athletic, plays erratic at times, but you would think with his skills he could contribute more than he did. I don't even think he played a minute against EWU... Is he hurt? Would love to see him against Michigan, he has the athleticism to hang with those guys IMO.

I'm guessing free throws. Karl has to shoot at least 10,000 of those in the off-season.

But you're right - we'll need him in the paint against Michigan.

Ah yep, that's probably it. I remember he was in the 55-60% range at one point.

Two reasons for lower basketball attendance numbers. First is I am not sure how many out of town fans attend football games but it is substantial. Just not sure how many people are going to drive from Butte and farther (Billings for me) for a basketball game especially in the winter when the roads are suspect.

The second is the fact that they got rid of the sideline Zoo in about 2003 or 2004 (not sure of the year). Back when I was at the U (79 to 84) I am thinking that you had at least 2,000 students crammed into the Zoo and they were right on top of the court. Now I bet you get half or maybe even a quarter of that for games.

I know Travis is really pushing to get the old Zoo back, lets hope so.

When I was in college, graduated with Gary Kane, basketball was it. Football was just starting to gain a foothold as they were growing their National Stature. You could not get a ticket to a basketball game. I think Travis is getting that back. Everyone loves a winner and he has his team, after 4 years, and the local crowd is realizing this Montana program can stay at the top and be fun to watch. Question is, how long will Travis stay to continue on what he started?

Don't know why this game, but Travis has said several times that he's not as good at defense yet as the other guys, so that sometimes keeps him on the bench in certain games.

While the team is better this year, and very exciting to watch, Travis' other teams were good too, and also fun to watch. A lot of us were wondering why there weren't more fans in prior years, as well as earlier this year.

I think he relies on his jumping ability instead of sliding his feet sometimes, which tends to cause more fouls, but I think he may need to get up in the air against the taller Michigan players.

I agree PR. I think it is being on top. Travis has climbed to the top and is competing at a high level and that has fans attention. I too have wondered why the local community has not came out to support this team earlier. Griz fans have proven very fickle, see football.
