Question on Offensive Line Play

OK. I am not a self-described football guru. But I paid particular attention to the offensive line today. Here is my take:

When they want to (or decide to), the line can absolutely open some big holes. There were a couple of runs where they blew the DL back right off the ball.

HOWEVER, there are times when they simply seem to give 1/2 effort. They don't seem to stay on blocks, and don't make much effort to stay in front of their guy. There were times when the line would virtually turn from white to black in about a second. And it wasn't during a screen play.

I don't know whether it is talent (I don't think so), effort (I hope not), or scheme/technique (have to believe it is this), or attitude (DOLA). Whatever it is, I believe the OL could be much better than it is playing.

I hope that they will take it upon themselves to go out and start dominating the game. Starting this week.

I noticed that too, I am ok, well not ok, but can accept one guy on the line getting beat on the play, but there seem to be at least 5 times a game where the whole offensive line gets beat. I don't understand it either.

When everyone watching can see that the defense is going to send the house, can the Griz please audible into a screen once every 2 years?

I think we've ran 2 screens this year. We're out of allotted screen plays for the next year and a half.

The 1st screen pass against EWU went for about 12 yards. The 2nd screen pass was in the series right after the Nate Narris pick and lost 2 yards. But I'm guessing those were called and not audibled...

My favoite plays by the OL today were when 3 or 4 of them were when they were turned around standing there watching our RBs getting destroyed in the backfield.

I wish I had been there with my camera............oh well there is always next week at South Dakota.

Is there a re-buy? Maybe we could borrow some from another team? Could we trade ewu 3 runs up the gut straight across for 3 screens...we've stockpiled those and could afford to trade a few away.

I also noticed that. And then they really didn't hustle over to help the RB up.

this drives me crazy. when this oline is at its worst no one stays on their blocks. i dont care what kind of technique issues theyre working on in practice, but any kid who cant stay on their block until the whistle blows isnt ready to play.

I think the O line has been together so much that they are on the same cycle.

Pretty cheap shot double C.............women on their periods would play with more tenacity than our OL. No need to diss women like that............ :coffee:

You're right Alpha, after all, I've married a few. Most were damn tenacious.

It wouldn't be funny if it wasn't true.

Seriously though, does nobody remind them what proper technique looks like?
