Why did an offense, one appearing so sure of itself and seasoned in piling up 38 points against the Bison, find such issue against Cal Poly?

The short answer, coach Stitt said, is found in his own team's huddle. The offense showed its growing pains Saturday.

"When you play a team like Cal Poly, you've got to chip away," Stitt referred to his team piling up yards on underneath passing routes while waiting for the big play opportunity.

When the big play never comes, it takes a veteran approach to maintain such a pace, though.

"At some point if you continue to stub your toe, you start panicking and then you want to take more and more," Stitt continued. "When you try and take more, they're gonna bite ya."

Quarterback Brady Gustafson struggled at times against Cal Poly's zone-heavy defense, lobbing throws into an eager secondary. His coach said much of this week will be spent with the QB reviewing film to avoid a repeat performance when the Grizzlies next take the field.

"Just being able to spend a few more days with Brady watching tape, seeing what they're doing and being able to feel a little more comfortable," Stitt said. "... It could be that you're trying too hard. I know sometimes Brady will rush a throw because he wants to get it out so fast and that causes it to sail or go into the ground."

Agree that isn't throwing Brady under the bus, just as Ash's comments weren't throwing his QB, or any other players under the bus..... just in case anyone actually believed that bullshit.

Not sure Kramer even did. Just telling it like it is. I don't remember Rod Ashes comments. Only heard people comment on them. What ever happened to that McGee kid anyway? Thought he'd play arena?

October, In October we will get a few games that are blow outs, and the second QB will get live reps.

Griz could be 1-3 by then.

Brady has to learn to run with the ball. He is a big guy. One play he would have got the first down if he hadn't have slid to the ground. That's about the only thing that annoys me other than that he's a decent QB.

If he falls down with the ball forward it's 5 yards, seriously.

But the reverse happens when he slides.

If he dove head first as early as he slides he would take too many hits, as defenders still can't hit him while he is clearly down.

I do hope he puts on another 15-20 pounds in the next year, he'd be good with the stiff arm if he had the bulk to back it up.

With this offense I wouldn't be surprised if in the next couple of years we get a 3 star qb who simply wants to be part of it......but that is a story for another day.

Isn't there one out of Harve that got media attention a month or so back?

Willie, the great hope! He will never be a stud here. Way too small. Stitt will bring in his boy next season. Mark it down.

Stitt likes Pflug a lot. Only time will tell what Pflug's future will be. I do know for fact, Stitt released the players who did not fit his system, or had them change positions. Stitt chose to keep Pflug. Unless Pflug is a great actor and playing GRIZ NATION for fools, he is a great advocate and leader already within his class and team. Pflug has too much passion to not be here. Despite his size, Pflug is a solid passer, and is a play maker. He will be contending to start in a few years. :thumb:

Waiting to work QB#2 into the system until the schedule softens up is madness. BG could get injured in practice today, or just walking to class. Same goes for any position. BG, and others, should have been taken out when ineffective, coached up and sent back in to try again. Those who have re-watched the game have posted how bad things REALLY looked. Maybe Stitt and staff have reviewed the game by now, and will make 'in game adjustments' as needed. If not, 1-3 is a good possibility.

According to many posters, Brady is the only QB we have on the roster. I guess if he gets hurt, Stitt replaces him with a linebacker.

Not to see what happens, but attempt to fix the cluster f*ck transpiring on the field. If the Griz played like they did with NDSU, we'd all be close to agreement. BG is just the tip of a large crap pile of problems exposed on Saturday. Doing the same thing over and.over and expecting a different result may be insanity to some, but with Stitt it seems to be SOP. Lack of depth will be exposed in short order.

Agreed. He also seems to slide too soon much of the time. Needs one more step prior to slide.[/quote]

Gotta admit that I was pretty shocked when he didn't drop his shoulder and take one more stride to get the first down. I don't want him to get hurt, but both the CP and NDSU quarterbacks showed more willingness to get critical yards - I'd like to see Gus do the same. Inexperience and lack of blocking are both factors, but....

Well, makes sense to me that Brady slides as others are stating that we don't have a capable back up QB we can bring in if he gets hurt. Maybe only linebackers?

As others have stated, you don't put a backup QB in the heat of a close game (like both of ours have been) just to see what you've got. If/when we manage to get into a game that has some garbage time at the end, I'm sure they'll get some reps. Relax. :roll:

As others have stated, you don't put a backup QB in the heat of a close game (like both of ours have been) just to see what you've got. If/when we manage to get into a game that has some garbage time at the end, I'm sure they'll get some reps. Relax. :roll:

At least one person is wondering why we haven't seen the backup QBs in games yet.
