I'm not saying that I don't think UM will test out the drop-down waters, but Simis is the best we'll have next year and I believe we'll be pleasantly surprised depending on who our coach is.

Personally, I think our depth next year should be 1) Simis 2)Gustafson/Pflug/Weyer. The back-up will be a battle (toss-up for me), but I think Simis should be our guy. A little competition at the QB spot will be nice though.

Other people's thoughts?

What are you going off of? Can you give a pros/cons of these guys and your reasonings? Can anyone?... From my perspective, Gustafson gets the nod for next year... he got the reps against Central, not Simis.

I think it goes 1)Gustafson 2)Simis 3)Weyer 4)Pflug... when the drop down/drop downs come our way... it'll be a full-tilt battle in the Spring AND Fall Camp between Gustafson/Simis/and the drop-downs...

My guess is it depends a lot on the offense we run next year. If MD and crew don't return and we hire a spread qb then Simis, or maybe even Pflug would have upper hand. Remember PFlug will be here for spring ball. If MD returns, then Gus probably is the man.

I watched both selle kids play at west at qb, kendall and then Andrew selle,,,,Andrew was a darned good qb, much better than kendall, and I think there is no doubt that gustufson puts both of them to shame, so to speak.....much more accurate, much more touch, much more velocity, much bigger, much taller, and is a better athlete all around....gustufson should be a very very good qb for the griz......he also has rewritten all the major records at west high for the qb position that has included Edwards ect.....if we have better qbs than gustufson, then we will be in good shape come next year imo...

"If MD returns, then Gus probably is the man." This is what I don't get about the QBs we already have. They have different skill sets. So if MD is going to be here then why is he recruiting QBs that don't play the style of ball he likes? And, why are we even looking at a possible drop down with all these QBs that are supposed to be so good?

Better question: why would a QB that doesn't play the style of ball Delaney likes ever commit here?

Great point. Maybe MD is a QB hoarder. LOL I would think that picking up a lot of offensive lineman would be the priority.

QB? and a host of other spots are in question.
Our defense will still be good. We have many young and good looking receivers. RBs will be very good as we have a ton of them coming back to play. O line is a work in progress and I think will be damn good next season.
Safety will be a question, DBs should be good, all in all I think we will have a chance to be very good next season.
I hope we have the coaching to put a good offense in play and we will be tough next season!

Safety will not be a question with Whitted, Dallaserra and Johnson.....wish we would have started Dallaserra with Whitted this year to have a more effective open field tackler and cover guy.
i was at the ew game and the missed tackles and coming late to help cover with denard getting beat a few times was not pretty.......of course it was cupp a couple of those times.
but getting there late not to help has nothing to do with the receiver.

Delaneys out and everyone knows it he will retire, he is a great guy and the blame should not all be put on him, he did a great job cleaning things up. I think Phlugrad has a great chance to start as a true freshman. He has all the tools and is very smart academicily and football smart, I like Simis too...... I feel bad for JJ his senior year having such a green offensive line and the guys calling the plays seem like the just don't get it. I would hope for ONE new offensive coordinator that plays to the strengths of the Griz, I love this team and it breaks my heart when we loose when I know we are better. The injurys have played a big role but everyone has injurys. If we sign the the guys that have commited the future is bright for Griz Nation and I still have high hopes for this team, I pray that Mick steps up and leads our Griz deep into the Playoffs. GO GRIZ !!!! Thanks for playing your asses off even when the chips are down.

So, did Simis throw a pass or not?
Not that i saw

Box score has Simis going 0-1 and Jones going 0-1. I dont' recall seeing either of those passes.
Yes. During the CW game. I remember it. I've been wanting to see Simis play for a while. When he came in I figured a damn running play but he actually got to throw it. It was towards the sideline and just far enough behind... Can't remember who he threw it towards, but he missed.

....and everything to do with the QB. Announcers even mentioned it: VA did a terrific job of "freezing" Hermanson in the middle of the field and then snapping over and hitting the receiver in stride before Hermanson could get over to help cover. VA did a great job of not "tipping" his passes or zeroing in on one receiver.

But the box score for the EWU game has him throwing a pass. :?

That's not right at all. I was sober during that game and woulda remembered that. I'd hope :?

QB next year?
None. No one! I just heard from the new head coach we are going to try the latest offense and not even have a QB. This is a brand new style of football played in a small school (I forgot the name) and three or four guys end up running and throwing. Sometimes to one another!

Tell your friends you heard it on E-griz first!

Really? :-?

How many times are we going to see that mistake get made over the next 4-5 years?

How would anyone know anything concrete about Simis or Gus? Without real game experience with the first team offense, there is no way to judge them. When we wasted JJ's frosh season playing him late in games with back-ups, he did not look good. But he turned out to be good when he got a chance to play with first-teamers.

We will not know anything about these two until spring ball. They could both be studs, or both be busts. That's why they should have been playing as JJ's back-up instead of SSH this season. We would know the answer to this question.

I still would like one of our board geniuses to tell me this: We all know how below-average SSH is. So, if Gus or Simis could not have at least equaled his performance if they played this year, why would we expect them to suddenly become great next year? It would not have been real hard to equal SSH this season.
I was thinkin about this a coue weeks ago. After listening to Delaney he said those who spent a lot of time on the team should get time to play and that's the way it outta be or something along those lines. *Facepalm!* this guy is a damn buffoon!! SS-H had his shit in 2012 and blew it! Next man up! Not feel sorry for the guy that tried hard but couldn't cut it. So so very frustrating! Yes, he had a great play against UND but that one play doesn't cover or make up for 2012! Simis and Gus need playing time more than anyone on the field. My god, Mick, please leave!! It's amazing how one guy can do this to an Outstanding program. One of the most feared places to play in the FCS. Other teams actually wanna come play us now.

That's becasue most people have you on "ignore". 8-)

Yeah, it is tough talking football, instead of swilling Kool-Aid. At least I can intelligently and objectively talk football. You might want to try it some time. Of I forgot, your head is neck-deep into the Kool-Aid pitcher. Ever hear of spell check?
