So, did Simis throw a pass or not?
Not that i saw

Box score has Simis going 0-1 and Jones going 0-1. I dont' recall seeing either of those passes.
The only person other than Johnson that I saw almost attempt a pass was Janssen but he tucked it and ran instead of throwing it.

I have a feeling we are going to get a FBS transfer... :thumb: :D 8-)

Yes, that is already in the works, as I heard yesterday from a good source. But you are not going to like the FBS school he is coming from.

The Griz don't need a drop down at QB. Several other areas would be nice.

OL and DB's :thumb:

agree here,,,our qb's should be pretty darn good, our o/l and db's need attention long before the qb position imo......

More than anything, I think it matters who the coach is. If Mick is still the coach, I don't think it matters one iota who the QB is ... sad, but true.

That's not the one I heard... ;)

I have heard others, but that was one I heard closer to first hand.

I'm not saying that I don't think UM will test out the drop-down waters, but Simis is the best we'll have next year and I believe we'll be pleasantly surprised depending on who our coach is.

Personally, I think our depth next year should be 1) Simis 2)Gustafson/Pflug/Weyer. The back-up will be a battle (toss-up for me), but I think Simis should be our guy. A little competition at the QB spot will be nice though.

Other people's thoughts?

What are you going off of? Can you give a pros/cons of these guys and your reasonings? Can anyone?... From my perspective, Gustafson gets the nod for next year... he got the reps against Central, not Simis.

I think it goes 1)Gustafson 2)Simis 3)Weyer 4)Pflug... when the drop down/drop downs come our way... it'll be a full-tilt battle in the Spring AND Fall Camp between Gustafson/Simis/and the drop-downs...

This touches on something I was meaning to ask the board for a while: Can someone give a brief rundown on our QBs strengths and weaknesses? Is Simis mobile with a weaker arm, etc? I haven't seen any of them practice, and at the one game I was able to attend this year, I forgot to check them out in warmups. Thanks in advance if anyone can do it.

I watched Gus at West play quite a few games. He's a big kid with a strong arm. I watched him throw down field to the opposite hash mark with success. I'd say average football athleticism for his size. I've watched him in 3 scrimmages at UM and he has had a propensity to throw the interception... :egriz: :twocents:

Thanks, Rim. Anybody care to give the skinny on Simis?

I've heard the same and it's more than feelers. Idaho has four on their roster, all young, so a bit of a logjam, which you can afford with 85 schollies:

11 Chalich, Chad QB 6-0 208 So. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho (Coeur d'Alene High School)
10 Linehan, Matt QB 6-3 202 RFr. Orchard Lake, Mich. (Orchard Lake St. Mary's)
14 Luton, Jake QB 6-6 218 Fr. Lake Stevens, Wash. (Marysville-Pilchunk High School)
12 Woodin, A.J QB 5-10 181 Fr. Beaverton, Oregon (Southridge High School)

Chalich and Linehan have this year's PT:

PASSING GP Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yards TD Long Avg/G
Matt Linehan 9 117.4 186-306-14 60.8 2042 9 75 226.9
Chad Chalich 4 124.8 36-64-2 56.2 491 2 51 122.8

So it's anyone's guess who it might be; maybe one we recruited and lost. Since the RFr appears to have won the starting job, maybe the Soph. is getting restless. Chalish.

How would anyone know anything concrete about Simis or Gus? Without real game experience with the first team offense, there is no way to judge them. When we wasted JJ's frosh season playing him late in games with back-ups, he did not look good. But he turned out to be good when he got a chance to play with first-teamers.

We will not know anything about these two until spring ball. They could both be studs, or both be busts. That's why they should have been playing as JJ's back-up instead of SSH this season. We would know the answer to this question.

I still would like one of our board geniuses to tell me this: We all know how below-average SSH is. So, if Gus or Simis could not have at least equaled his performance if they played this year, why would we expect them to suddenly become great next year? It would not have been real hard to equal SSH this season.
